And I can certainly relate to that. The only advice I'd pass along is each build and each tank is a learning experience. The more experience, not only a better outcome, but more importantly a better outcome that matches your preferences. We all like things a bit different, and the advantage to this stuff is creating something that meets your needs, rather than trying to fit your needs to what you can find available.
Along the way I absolutely expect to have builds go bad, or have products I just can't get to work for my preferences. The good thing is that with time I've been learning what my preferences in fact are, which is making my life a bit easier.
UD Bellus has amazing flavor. I own one. The deck in the griffin is really easy to build on. But some decks aren't so easy. You will learn some new techniques and be a better builder when you learn how to build on other style decks. My best advise is to hold the coils as close to the deck as possible, then screw down the leads. After you cut the 4 leads, take the metal bit you used to make your coils and push the coils outwards so it's not touching the deck and it doesn't short out. add cotton drip your juice on top, and your golden.

Thank you. By trial and error, I used your technique earlier in the day, and it worked. I would only add that I used a tweezer to compress the coils so that they would fit within the deck.
I also own a Griffin 25, and totally agree it is easier to build. Great tank.
I had the same problem with my bellus this morning. I had 28g Ni with 3mm diameter. Opened up the build deck to realize that the coil was push toward the posts when i insert the coil in. So i caused a short there... I readjusted the coil position away from the posts and it is working fine now.
For my simple single coil builds this is a very good tank.
