Problem with my Hobo 2.1 RDA

First off, I am new to the forum, hello all! I'm glad to have registered after reading quite a few threads.

Today I received my Hobo 2.1 RDA, authentic and all. It's my first rda, and I'm super paranoid I may have just ruined it already and feel incredibly dumb.
I was heating my micro coils to compress them and when they heated up a small part of the insulator melted a small amount. Theres now a small groove in the insulator... Did I just ruin the rda? :(

I'm not sure if I did. I didn't think much of it at first and was just a lot more careful with everything. I proceeded to make my build and soak the cotton. When I vape it though, I get a a burnt flavor in my juice. My vape also doesn't taste that warm. My atlantis vapes warmer than it. The build I was using was a 1ohm dual micro coil build, and I tested it at 20-30 watts. I'm on the IPV3.

So am I just making crappy coils as a beginner and being paranoid or is the small melt in the insulator causing my issues?

Hi heimsothe and welcome to ECF :)

IMO, there is about a 0.000000001% chance that you melted part of that insulator.

It doesn't surprise me that your Atlantis vapes warmer than this RDA because the Atlantis has less air flow. If you didn't clean all parts of the Hobo with dish soap and warm water, do so now. Make sure you rinse off the soap. There might be a bit of machine oil on the parts and that will mess up the flavors for a while until the oil goes away.

If you still get a burnt taste from the vape, post a couple of good pictures of your build and we'll take a look at them. Sometimes we can see something that you might have missed.

Otherwise, I would not worry about the RDA unless the insulator gets more obviously melted. It's all about being clean now and the builds you have in there.

I didn't even think to clean it... thank you! I'll do that now. I started freaking my self out and just put it aside for the night out of fear I ruined it! I'll wash it, dry it, and work on my builds as I'm sure they're crap right now! I appreciate the info. I'm excited to get this working. Now is it still possible to get a warm vape while still producing good clouds with the Hobo? I like warm vape because I like cream flavors. Not like hot hot, but warm.

You're welcome :). Don't worry about it. I've done the same thing with new gear!

I'm sure it is possible. It has air flow control and working with that should do it for you. You'll have to get the right combination of wire gauge, coil resistance, power setting and air flow. That makes for a few variables, but it can be done :)
