I've had this ProVari for less than a month now, and within the last 2 weeks I've had constant E1 errors and I cannot for the life of me figure out what's wrong. The Cart I am using right now (producing an E1 error) is only like 4 days old and the E1 errors are random. This has happened with my last 2 carts (abnormally short lifespan). I've found that it happens if I have the cart screwed tight, if I loosen it the E1 error is less likely to happen. My resistance readings are all over also, 2.9 (normal) to 2.7 all the way down to 1.5 and LO readings (whatever that means, low ohms?). I don't understand and I'm not experienced enough to figure out the problem myself, so if anyone has any ideas or this has/is happening to them also please let me know, thanks!

Some of my cartos E1 as well and I have found it to be the insulation between the carto negative and the positive pin (like a small grommet). When its screwed on too tight it damages this insulation resulting in the E1. IMO it's a design flaw on the carto manufacturers part. That said the ProVari does have a prominent positive pin.

The picture below as reference, but obviously in 510 format

An E1 error indicates "Short Circuit / Shorted Atomizer – If this error appears, remove the atomizer and replace with a different one or or lower your voltage settings. The ProVari will automatically reset when the problem is fixed."
--from the PDF manual.

Try a different carto or atty. The unit is reading a short circuit, and protecting its own circuitry.

I know this already, I read the whole manual lol. I just posted this because it was odd it was happening randomly and faster than it should with multiple cartos

You might be surprised how many people haven't, or have no idea what the error codes mean and just assume "my Provari must be broken!" as soon as they see an error. :)

It's also nice to identify the error for anyone who might find this thread from a search.

When you say "My resistance readings are all over also, 2.9 (normal) to 2.7 all the way down to 1.5 and LO readings (whatever that means, low ohms?).", is that all with the same carto?

What type/brand cartos are you using?

I had a new carto that I started using the other day.. on a vv box.. it was in a tank and working well.. then all of a sudden it started giving a really burnt taste, I know it was wet. so I figured my voltage was too high, so I lowered it.. and lowered it.. and lowered it. Finally I put the carto on the provari to check the ohms.. it read something like .09! and then it gave an E1. No wonder it was tasting burnt! It had shorted out and I'm lucky I didn't lose my vv box!

Moral of the story... shorts happen.

Any word on the "Lo" readout? What is that? I was using a 3ohm boge in the Act V4 today, when in the tank it kept giving me an E1, and when I checked the ohms all I got was a "Lo" reading, I've never seen that before. Finally I changed out the carto and no problems. Crazy thing, once out of the tank the carto worked fine, and was 2.9 ohms.

I had some Boge cartos awhile back that were all over the place like that. They seemed to drop from 3.0 to 2.0 then go back up... I kept an eye on them and adjusted y voltage accordingly, as soon as an E1 error message come up... I tossed it. The new ones (still Boge) haven't given me any problems. It's possible that you got a bad batch of cartos...

I have seen this with Smoketech cartos as well...
