Hello all

I just received my Halo Triton starter kit yesterday and am extremely pleased with the product to say the least. It is such an upgrade from the regular ego battery/ce4 clearomizer setup I was using before. However, I do want to ask for advice on how to properly maintain such a fine product. With the old ego batteries I was using I would use the clearomizers until the coil started producing funny-tasting vapor and I would just toss the whole clearomizer and replace it with a new one, usually every 2-3 weeks.

I want to make these puppies last as long as possible of course. I know I will soon have to buy some replacement coils on the Halo website which is fine by me, but what steps should I be taking to ensure that my coils/tanks last as long as possible at a high-quality performance? I am a huge rookie (I don't even think I know what a dry burn is) and I am not interested in replacing the wicks unless it is absolutely necessary. How do you guys go about keeping your Triton in tip-top condition? How often should I replace the coil completely? What's the best way to wash the clearomizer setup? I very much appreciate any advice you guys could give. Also, if there is already a thread on this then please post a link directing me to it and this one can be deleted. Thanks. :)

i think if you soak the head in distilled water every few days, they will last longer than waiting weeks and then trying to clean them.
buy some replacement coils now, and rotate them, have a set in your tanks, and set soaking in water and a set drying.
many more halons will chip in, so hold onto your hat and congrats on joining halonation.

also as a reward for being a halon, you get 10% off your orders, dave knows the coupon code, i've forgotten it :(

So I just washed out the tank with hot water and rinsed the coil/wicks and am letting it dry for now. When I dry burn the coil, which parts do I leave out? Obviously the drip tip, but also do I leave the plastic cover on? Or is dry burning just activating the element in the tank with the coil assembly completely left off? Thanks

I unscrew the mouth tip and the condom (the rubber piece that is on the coil) then dry burn until the flavor wick will come out easily because I don't want it pulling the bottom coil wick or coil, then I dry burn again rinse really well to get what you've just burnt off. Dry burning is just short bursts of heat don't over do it or you will melt the inner grommet. I only dry burn when a good cleaning isn't working. :)

Here is an old thread that has alot of really good cleaning ideas and alot of fun nonsense. :D Read it all and come up with what you like to do. We are all different. :)

And here is an awesome thread by Joe13 on rebuilding the coils with some really great pictures of the inner workings of a coil assembly. ;)

Thanks for the help evie!

So I dry burned the coil like you said and the only issue I had was putting the top wick back in, it got pretty frayed at one end though. Haven't noticed any issues as far as flavor or vapor production though so I assume this is normal? Is there a way to "de-fray" it or do I just let it be?

You can take the time & effort to wind the frayed wicks back around each other for appearance but it being frayed doesn't change the way it wicks. They work just fine even with the unraveled ends. I haven't had one completely unravel. :)

I maybe one of the few that don't like the taste after a dry burn. If i do dry burn, I usually will do another cold water rinse and let it dry again. I rarely dry burn but when I do, I taste a weird residue unless I do another rinse.

Yep. That's because all the gunk you just burned off is still sitting on there! Another rinse will get it off, then the taste shouldn't be there.

??

There's a majority that like the burnt taste?

I always rinse after a dry burn.

I was making the mistake of not re-rinsing after a dry burn until someone told me about it. It does make for a funky taste due to the "ashes" of the burnt gunk still being on and around the coil. A good soak in cheap vodka has been way more helpful than just water...plus it evaporates WAY faster so you can get back to vaping on that coil faster! :2c:

But even cheap vodka is good for drinking, such a waste ;)

You can carefully rewrap it.
But I bet you were trying to get the wick through the slot.

Take the little silver top cap off of the coil head. This lets you see the dry burn better, and makes replacing the top wick easy.

But don't lose the top cap!!!

And if you eventually get a coil at the end of it's life, save it. The parts come in handy!

OH!!! Good thinking Dave...I too when I first got my Triton tried to thread the top flavor wick back in when it would fall out during washing. I didn't know the top little silver cap could come off either. So I bet that's what the OP was talking about too.
