As the topic says. I've got a Protank-2, with both original and Airflow control valve bases. I used it all last year on a Sigelei until that died, then went back to eGo batteries (with a mini Protank and EVODs). I'd like to use the big Protank since I have a collar for it, but when I put it on an eGo battery, the battery dies. Sometimes it'll give a hit or two, but still just dies. The battery seems fine after re-charging. I build my own Protank-2 coils and use the same heads in the small tanks and the big one. Any ideas?

so you're saying:

you build coils, both m pt & big pt

same Ω ?

try putting the coil out of the m pt in the big protank

and see if that kills the ego batt

I can see maybe troubles INSIDE the air flow base
possible center pin touching...?

but the standard pt base , not really

Yes, I build coils for atty heads that work in both the mini protank, large protank and the evods. They're usually around 1.8-2.0 ohms and I've taken one straight from the evod, happy as anything, put it into the protank-2 and when I put the pt2 onto an ego the battery instantly goes dead.

is that with or with out the air flow controller base....?

like I said, can't see how standard base would cause troubles

but yes, could happen with afc base (possible)

battery going dead MUST be some sort of short

are you seeing any 'light show' flashes from fire-button ?

dead you mean NO MORE POWER
afterwards installing an EVOD still no power

how many times has this happened ?
is it possible ego shorts out, goes off
then when charged it turned back on ?

when this happens you obviously try 5 clks back on ??

I'm thinking short protection mode engaged

perhaps pt2 510 threads long enuff to push ego center pin into guts to short

EVOD & mini protank II are ego-threaded (pt2 not)

This sounds a lot like the center pin grommet on the ego battery is worn down enough that when you screw a 510 type device "into" the battery it causes the center pin to short against the ground in the ego/510 socket on the ego battery (most likely), or it could even "tilt" the pin enough to short across the tip of your pt2's 510 pin (less likely but still possible).

This could happen in such a way that a regular ego base mounted device like your mini pro or evod, when connected "onto" the ego connection threads would make adequate contact with the batterys center pin without pushing the pin hard enough to cause the shorted condition.

This is a fairly common issue with well used old ego/510 combo connector equipped batteries. One common fix is to carefully pull up the center pin and put a #60 o-ring on the pin and stuffing it back in the socket to insulate it. There are numerous youtube videos on how to do this and I'm sure a few threads here at ecf with pics, but I'm too lazy to look them up for you this morning.

Ok, so when I say the ego "goes dead" it will just not light up or fire at all. Sometimes I'll see the button light up briefly then go out and stay out. The battery will not work on anything after this until it's recharged. Some of these batteries are brand new (less than a month old), only one battery is more than a year old. This happens whether I'm using the airflow valve or the standard base. Other than my egos, I have a dead Sigelei and a Praxis mod which I just can't get the hang of. The PT2 seems to work fine on the Praxis.

On my protank2 ,I wrap 28ga wire, checking ohms it reads 1.5,but when I put the chimney on the reading goes to 0.16,I see nothing touching.frustrating,4 times ,the same result. any suggestions ?

The inside of the chimney may be touching the coil itself, depending on the coil diameter or height in the cup. Try to pull the coil down if you can, or you could also put a small amount of wicking (the so-called flavor wick) on to of the coil to insulate it from the chimney.

My issue I believe is that the 510 threading on the air flow base I have is stripped out and wobbling on some of my older batteries - it works on my Sigelei mini and my newer Ego passthrus.

Thanks Belhade,I was hoping you would reply,I have a Kayfun lite and got so disgusted with building with those tiny screws, made my mind up to go to protank and divide,I love them, protank easy built was a no brainer for me ,after reading your comment and others I'm thinking the 28ga may be the problem so I have ordered 30ga,like you say being as how 28ga is thicker, maybe the chimney is hitting the coil,I'll let you know, but ,why would it not short out, instead of giving a lower reading, let it be known,I am a noob.
