Used to make fishing flies just for fun (have all these feathers and fur from my creature heads) so I think it'd be pretty easy to set up and get started IF I could get my stuff together!

Yikes! You're a pro! Your ready to rebuild my Vision Destiny.

The most delectable dripper I have, btw. Hugely underrated I think. It sit's on a China clone somewhat resembling the Empire State Building! Which it is in terms of flavor.

I am so impressed with the ecig phenomena and how much individual ingenuity has contributed to it.

Enjoy!

I was really hopeful more people would pile on this thread to contribute some findings on rebuild parts for the Protank's.

Some mention has been made of the AG -T positive post connectors being a possible sub for same on the Protank. Fact is it can be made to fit with some difficulty; however, the silicone is thicker and so soft it totally blocks airflow. So no, it doesn't work.

As I posted on another thread, the Sun Vapers o-rings for RDA's definitely work on the Protank 1 and "no-glue" cross-bar version. Very grateful for that product offering. At least we can know the size. They mic out at 9mm i.d. (1mm thick). They work at least as well as the original silicone. While they appear to be Buna-N which should be food safe the exact composition is uncertain as the source of production is unspecified. Any helping to spec a substitute would be appreciated.

Possible sources are:

Metric O-rings - Buna-N - Nitrile - Viton - FKM - All Orings Online
https://www.oringsusa.com/catalog/

As I have time I'll try to look and test, report here.

Likewise for results on other Kanger products. Thanks to all who post.

I picked up that Lightning Vapes (on eBay as well) has these replacement grommets for the Protank's, etc. Don't know if this is elsewhere on the board but if you haven't found their website or seen them on eBay check it out...

Resistance Coil Insulator 10 Pack (CE Type Atty's, eg. Protank, Evod,T - Lightning Vapes

I don't know if they're better than the originals, the new silicone jobbers or just another Easter egg hunt but at least they'll get us past the memory of all the burnt, cutup newb moments still disparaging our taste buds. I hate to throw out all those old assemblies for lack of a proper insulator.

So I'll get around to ordering some and let y'all know.

Wish me luck!

:)

I've dropped mine a couple of times, but the glass didn't break.
It broke at the base, where it screws into the mod.
It takes a small pair of needle nosed plyers to get the broken part out of the mod.

They sell the bases at MyVaporStore.
The base is what you will need to replace the most.
When it falls, it doesn't land "flat", and the weak point is where it connects to your mod.
If the protank hits first, it snaps
Since the mod protects the threads screwed into it, it breaks right above it.
So, you end up with one mod, and one protank several inches apart.

Google "protank parts".
I found that some places limit the amount you can buy, and some will let you buy more.
I also picked up some "O" rings from the same web site.
I just dont remember which one it was, but MVS is one of them.

Mine should hit the PO this morning. Got a lot of tanks and a good part of them the grommets are downright crunchy. Seared badly the first month I started rebuilding. They've been soaked in everything you can think of to try and clear the taste. Never quite the same. We'll see. And let us know what you think of them will ya?

Good luck.

Well I got a very speedy response from Sean at Lightning Vapes over the weekend and the replacement grommets are here courtesy of the USPS…

They mic'd out at somewhat over the 3.5 spec for thickness raising a bit of concern; however, so did the worn crusty factory insulators I was replacing. The fit was as good or better than factory. In fact they more resemble the post 2.2Ω head grommet in density and pliability than the originals. There was a slight improvement. Perhaps in heat resistance as well since I've not experienced burns in the material with 2.2Ω heads and later. It couldn't possibly be my technique has improved that much in the past few months. So I speculate to suspect there was a change in composition.

The later iteration of grommets from Kanger have proven to me to be consistently a bit firmer, easier to insert and better fitting the assembly. Those shown here supplied by Lightning Vapes appear to match that specification exactly. Holding their form better than the originally furnished grommets they should likewise not bulge as much. At times such deformation inhibited airflow in Kanger tanks when the grommet was pressed into the assembly too tightly.

I'll try to come back with final impressions as I have more of these in operation. However, use with confidence.

Good luck!

Sean ships fast and free via usps, too. Got my A1 kanthal from lightning vapes and i'm a happy customer. No fuss, no muss. Good to hear about the grommets, Mac. If my silicone tubing doesn't work out as expected, i'm definitely getting a 10 pack or two from sean. Was already considering it.

Yeah, Sean is really on it. I've ordered from him before finding this worthwhile vendor first on eBay. And I hopped on it 'cause I was very curious whether he had an alternative, the original or the updated composition I mentioned in my post at…

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...tinky-grommet-replacement-5.html#post11336365

Now I'm reasonably certain having handled a few and compared them to sealed new factory heads that they are one and the same or a reasonably good knockoff. We can't know for sure until we put them to the test and see if we develop any routine burns resulting from coil deformities. And they happen with use no matter how carefully we build. If the better new material, we'll continue to see good performance. And Sean should enjoy a healthy balance of accounts. We shall see.

Good luck!

Hey Mac:

Have not seen an up to date post on the Lightning Vapes insulator replacements for the protanks........must be too full of turkey...lol.

I got mine serveral days ago and they are spot on :toast:....now that I am into micro coils on 1/16" drill bits with 10 wraps torched tight with cotton wick and a small cotton flavor "blanket" I am in flavor hog heaven.

Good thing I don't have stock in Kanger as my replacement head purchases will drop dramatically....still have a 5-pack new carton stash and 4 micro coils heads all ready to go. :vapor:

Well, LOL, a turkey did kind'a get in the middle…metaphorically speaking.

Sure, I've got the news. They're just dandy!

I ran 'em through pairs of both PT 1 and 2, pair, 3TS/MT3, a PT Mini 2v2 and an Evod. All were 1.58mm and 1.78mm (3/43") sets. I had suspicions about a couple. One possible, was leaking but a slight build problem unrelated to my concerns regarding airflow. The second, I did experience an air restriction and there was bulging. It was caused though by the peculiar way the pos. was exiting. Was not an exceptional malformation of the grommet material. I subsequently rebuilt using the same insulator and no problem. So I'm 7 for 7 in the green at the moment.

The material though is not what I expected. Not as firm as the grommet composition I've seen since the 2.2Ω head release. It does appear to be a different composition and not as firm as the Kanger item, a bit softer, and that lead me to concerns about bulging in operation from the heat. But as I said they're just swell…or maybe not.

Thanks for the feedback!

And btw, you might want to take a poke at my post on a new winding method here…

Some additional remarks starting here…

I'm really pleased how effortlessly these can turn out now and the above is in part why. Hope this helps. Let me know if you give it a shot.

Good luck!
