Hi,
So I'm quite new to vaping and have upgraded from a standard ego battery to a kanger IPOW 2 Variable wattage (3-15) 1600mAh.
I'm using a protank 3 - a 1.5 ohm kanger new style dual coil and clear PG70/VG30 aniseed juice.
I wanted to get few opinions on what type of wattage is a sensible range and what folks would expect to be optimum wattage?
I have done a bit of research and thought I'd sussed it but now I'm unsure again after reading different opinions on how to calculate with duals.
Many thanks
C

Hello and welcome to the forum Chris. Glad to have you here!:)

There is no optimal range. It's all personal preference depending on what you like and your juices ability to wick well. Dual coils do require more power than single coils.

Start low (maybe around 7-8 watts), slowly dial it up until you start to get a dry hit, then dial is down a notch or two.

Here are some unrelated getting started links for you.

With my ipow2 and a protank3 1.5 coil i stayed around 12 - 12.5 watts that was a perfect setting for me,
I also do mostly lung hits. my favorite tank for the ipow was a kanger aerotank giant it looked a little funny
but it held enough juice for the whole day and the hit was great.

So... Im wondering if I'm guilty of a breach of forum etiquette that im not aware of here... was hoping to get a little advice - but lots of reads and no replies...??

Keep calm... :)

I would set it to about 8 watts and work up from there.

The 1.5ohm coil should run cooler than a single coil, so I can't see you getting bad hits at 8w and you might make it to 12w. I used to run dual coil 1.5 at full power on the MVP, which is 11w, although it was always a little short of that in reality.

Thanks for the advice.

I've done a bit more testing now - first dodgy hit was 11.5 - so I'm staying at 10 - happy with that.

One other quick question is on the battery itself - I haven't run it all the way down yet - but find it drops a bar after 1 or 2 vapes and drops another after maybe 10 or 11 vapes.

What type of battery life are you getting/expecting from the ipow 2 1500? And do you find the reading in bars to be accurate?

Thanks again - quite a lot to learn :)

I'm finding the battery a bit disappointing - its good when its fully charged - but it doesn't last long enough. I have an ego battery I got with an Apollo starter kit - and it lasts a lot longer - when I'm using it with a protank 3 mini and the same 1.5 ohm coil.

Does this sound right?

Well, it's totally possible, as Apollo are mostly plain eGos and I expect it's way under the power of of iPow 2.

Can you compare the vapour production between the iPow at, say 3.7 volts and the Apollo battery straight off the charger?

My 900mah EVOD battery would last longer than my Spinner 1,300mAh, because basic eGos aren't very high voltage.

So comparing the two - The ego is approx. 3.7 watts. Running the IPOW2 at 3.5/5 watts the amount of vapour is about the same.

I'm actually struggling a bit to see much of an advantage with the ipow2. I'm finding the ego with the mini protank 3 almost as good as the IPOW2 with the standard pro tank 3.

Also with 1.4 ohm resistance in the IPOW2 any over 8 watts is tasting burned.. which I didn't expect - I could switch down to a 1.2 - but cant see it making that much difference..?

How do you know the eGo is producing 3.7 watts? (is that even possible...)

8 watts is probably around max for Kanger clearos. Switching to a 1.2 will only make matters worse i.m.o.

I fear you are missing the point. IF you put a 2.0ohm clearomiser on the eGo, it will make a 6.8 watt vape. You have almost no choice on that.

If you put the same clearo on the iPow, you might be able to turn it up to 7 or 8 even 9, which should start to show extra vapour.

If you went out and bought a mini Nautilus, it would barely vape on the eGo, but you could turn the iPow up to 10, 12, 14, maybe even the full 15 watts.

The problems you are having are because these Protanks won't allow you to get the benefit of a variable power device, because they just burn too easily.

I know, it's complicated.... but at some point down the line, the iPow 2 will make sense as you move up the hardware ladder onto better tanks and more power-ready atomizers.

Ok so I picked up a nautilus mini on the way home today - have filled it with 50/50 juice - let it stand for 20 mins - and then did 10-15 pulls with no power.

Coil is a BVC - 1.6 - which is showing exactly 1.6 on the ipow dial also.

At first I was getting almost random dry hits but it seems to have settled down now - I have it on the second widest airhole.

Setting the ipow to 8-9 watts - great - plenty of flavour. 10-11 watts and it starts to taste burned - more on the exhale than the inhale.

Is this expected? If I go to 14-15 watts theres loads more vape - but the same burnt taste as at 10-11 - no worse which surprised me.

So I reckon the limit with the ipow nautilus mini - and a 1.6 bvc coil is around 9-10 watts - does this seem reasonable - or any ideas what Im doing wrong?

Many thanks again :--)
