Brass can be coated with a lacquer to help prevent it, but I would be inclined to not. I actually like when all my brass stuff ages and develops a patina. It's like giving it a personality. In fact, I have stripped the lacquer off many brass things I have so that the patina will develop. To each their own though.
Get one of those cloths to polish brass from a hardware store. I personally also like patina on brass. The brass bridge saddles on my Telecaster have aged into a nice greenish brown, and add that roadworn touch.
Hey, I'm really interested in the results, I'm just wondering if that rustoleum clear coat would actually do the trick, and if it would hold up even with heavy usage. Please show some pics!
