Long time no see, ECF.
I have an interesting battery question for all of you.

My wife was doing laundry this morning and one of my 5V mods went along for the ride in my shirt pocket. I can't believe she didn't notice the mod before she tossed it into the wash but that's neither here nor there. The unit itself seems to be working perfectly now that it has dried out plus it's now springtime fresh!

The question I have is concerning the batteries, however. Can the protection circuit be trusted now that it has been laundered? They are 14500 TrustFires if that makes a difference. The positive ends already look like they are rusting and/or corroding so I'm not sure I should use them again. It sucks because they were perfectly good batteries before this but unless someone can tell me different, I think I'm gonna toss 'em for safety's sake.

Do you all agree or am I being overly paranoid?

I would toss them also. I would be more worried about the cells your not supposed to get them wet. Water can get in threw the vent holes. As far as circuits go they can handle being wet as long as they are not powered up wet. alot of solder fluxes require you to wash them off after soldering. Yours most certainly was wet while having battery voltage applied to it. kinda surprised it still works. It could very well be just fine after the wash but like they say " better safe then sorry " .
