Good morning! Apologies in advance if this subject has been covered elsewhere, if it has I wasn't able to find it.

madly in love with my first new Reo, it is the metallic purple....beside a Jwrap which I have on the Provari gang (love them too, just differently) what is the best/preferred method of paint protection? I was afraid to try chemically things like car wax, countertop polish etc without checking here first. So many reonauts and so much combined experience....I believe information is out there! I also have a black anodized one, currently sporting a shiny orange door, that I received second hand, but it's a beauty as well. That finish doesn't seem to be so scratch-able, but I want to keep it nice also.

yes I know there is the "scratches, dings add character and indicate lotsa use and lotsa love" idea.....I guess I'm just not ready for that one yet
I'm still in the "lotsa use lotsa love but let me get you matching drip tips and sparkly charms and admire you in the sun in your perfection" phase.
omg I'm cracking up so much just typing that....scared the cat and made dogs bark hahahaaaa...somehow it feels way more goofy when I'm the one typing this stuff yet not goofy at all when I'm reading someone else's post....I'm usually nodding while reading lol.

I better stop rambling here....thanks so very much for any help!

I can appreciate wanting to keep your REO all pretty and new looking but accidents do happen. The upside is it takes a act of God to seriously break one. You could get a leather case and it will keep it from scratches but then all that beauty is covered up. When will someone ever invent the force field.

Anything you cover it with will.....well, it will cover the beauty. I've found that the powder coat finishes are strong, and unless you just throw it around, it'll stay beautiful. Some of the finishes (copper vein; silver vein) change (tarnish) with use and need clear coated, but the regular colors stay just the way they are.....beautiful forever. I always carry mine in a special pocket in my purse so that pens and keys and such can't bang around with them, but that's the only thing "special" I do with them. You know it's special; you will be protective.

BTW, since I've been using REOs (long time,) I buy purses with them in mind. I always get bags with at least one pocket, and I always make sure a REO will fit in the pocket. My all-time favorite purses these days are Vera Bradley's because they're loaded with soft pockets that are just the right size for any REO I feel like carrying.

Clear coat would add a sacrifice layer for small scratches, but it's like a shiny new car - only a matter of time....

There are j-wraps made for reos, but then you'd have a perfect purple metallic finish hidden under a sticker.

I like JC's advice for care as being the most practical thing you can do. I don't carry a purse (many dudes in my city do), but my wife does. Hmmm... I sense a Vera Bradley gift in her near future.
