Hey guys any tips on protecting the life of these passthroughs since the wire seems so thin and cheap? Could it be nicely wrapped in electrical tape? Any tips for making them stronger for dummies?? hehehehe

Lucky--other then wraping the tape around--you have to treat them like a new born baby Black Kitten that really needs a box and might just get on!!!!---Sun

Try using 3/8" heat shrink tubing over the end of the battery and onto the wire. You will need to cover about a 1/2" of the battery and another 1/2" of the wire. Use clear heat shrink so you can still see the LED.

Okay I sooooo appreciate your help, but remember, I said how to protect a passthrough for dummies. What is heat shrink and how do I do it? LOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

The main issue I see with the USB pass through is that there is no strain relief on the cord where it meets the battery (led end).

That's what I thought too...if the passthrough is going to break it'll be at the wire to battery led point. Right now I have a slit piece of straw that I have tightly taped in that area to keep it rigid. A bit tacky, but serving its purpose for now until I get to something a little nicer looking. How's that for an easy temp fix for us dummies Lucky? :D

I found it was easy to put a glob of clear silicone on the end, and extend it up the wire for about 1/2". I do this on machine sensors to keep the wires from breaking or cracking close to the point of entrance. It usually works pretty well.

Any chance you can post a picture. I'm not familiar with the heat shrink tubing and I'm having trouble conceptualizing what you are saying. Thanks!
