ProVari and CR123A

Right now I am waiting for my ProVari to show up in the mail. In the mean-time, I'm looking at my battery options...

I purchased a couple of UltraFire 18650 batts for my ProVari. Today I noticed that if I stack a couple of CR123A batts that together they are the same height as my 18650.

Together two CR123A batts would provide 6v to my ProVari.

Does anyone know if the ProVari handle this, or would I risk damage to my ProVari if I did this?

(I realize that I have a better chance for a response if I post in the ProVari forum, but I need a few more posts before ECF will let me post outside of the New Members Forum.)

I'm really not sure it would be necessary to stack your 123s since your provari is a VV boosted and with a 18650 you'll get much better battery life.

Stick with the suggested batts and do not stack two CR123A's. The unit is designed to step up voltages from a standard 3.7V batt. It will give you a choice of 3.3 to 6V. Putting 6V to the circuitry will most likely cause issues. I would assume ProVape has some protection in it for this type of issue but I would not chance it!

My only thought was, maybe, if the unit didn't have to step up the voltage beyond the native 3.7v that it might be more efficient. But, I'm not an electrical engineer I don't exactly know how this stuff works.

Read the manual on the ProVari site. It specifically states that stacking batteries will voi the warranty.

Good luck with those ultrafires also, but if I where you I would purchase the recommended power cell that the Provari was built to run on the AW IMR 18490 & 18650 there are many reasons this power cell is the recommended one to run in this unit.

I'm not sure of the exact reasons for the recommended power cells. So, my choice of the ultrafires was based on their 3000mah rating. Thus far I can report that they are working great.

The Ultrafire 3000mah 18650's are low drain, the AW 18650's are high drain. This means they discharge quicker and can supply power to your atomizer at a faster rate. I know from experience that it makes a difference. Get the high drain type, you'll get much better performance out of you Provari.

ProVari is designed for 3.7 Volts. Stacking up 2 CR123 batteries (6++Volts) will most probably fry the unit/ circuitry.

OK... So I am taking advice from this forum and I purchased some AW IMR 18650 high drain batts. The jury is still out. They do seem to work very good in my ProVari. But, I just can't tell yet if they're any better than the Ultrafire 3000mah 18650 batts I'd been using.

By the way, I found these batteries OverReady.com. I ordered noon on Friday and I received the batts on Saturday. This was with standard USPS shipping. I was very surprised.
