Yes you can although Provape recommends AW, great batteries and it's not worth saving a buck or two for something else imo.

As far as the battery size, the first 2 digits 18xxx designate the diameter of the battery. The second 2 digits designate the length in mm, so 18500 is just 1mm longer than 18490.

Edit, make sure it's a button top. I've seen post where people have tried flat top and the positive didn't make contact.

You may not be able to use the device at higher voltage settings with the 18500P.

Ummm I don't think that's right. You should be able to use all of the features and voltages, it would be the same as any recommended batt and Provape does state that the 18500 can be used. If the 18500 limited the voltage.. believe me.. there would be questions and complaints all over the Provari forum.

When I inquired about this with Provape, I was sent this response...
"We only recommend using the AW red high drain batteries because these cells have enough output current to handle the demands that the ProVari needs. While the trustfires and others with a button top will work, it's when you get into pulling more power those protected IC batteries will shutdown. This is because the protection circuit on the battery is turning off when it reaches its output max which is only about 2 amps. With the AW cells they can supply a lot more power to the unit."

Ahhh... you'd get an error code. The protection on the batts themselves would trip. I understand what you're saying now. Good info to know. :)

Sorry, I phrased that kind of poorly. Although it sounds only as if it would occur with higher voltage settings and so higher watts, depending on carto resistance. Evolv seems to reflect the same stance as they only advise the AW red batteries for using the Kick as well. I've considered trying a 18500 in my V2 to see how it does given it is almost 500 mah extra from the red, and supposedly they have a longer service life too. It seems my ideal wattage is usually around 6-8, which isn't exceptionally high so perhaps the 18500P would work for me. I think I may have also read somewhere that the 18650 button top batteries result in the Provari's endcap to not completely closing although it still functions correctly.

I think you may be confusing the Provari with Lavatubes with that statement. The Provari fits perfectly with 18650 button tops with the extender cap. My SS Lavatube (backup unit..heh) won't quite close all the way with a button top AW 18650, maybe 1/4 of a turn shy. I've heard some say that their LT fits perfectly with them. Maybe mine is a hair off somewhere...:)

In that case it must be the Lavatube then. I was close! :p
