I have been viping in two so far and it's so important to be prepared for a long conversation about, that it is? how? why? where? how much? and other, as alot of people are not up today....

(...but I don't blame them: they had an &@*% of a vaper in there before we got there using an e-cig that looked like a ciggie who gave the landlord a mouthul when questioned and told him he couldn't stop him using it because he was legally allowed to: Landlord's response: my pub, my rules, no e-cigs :( Shame.... because he's a decent bloke and has made more modifications to the pub to accommodate smokers since the ban (sticking just about within the letter of the law!) than anyone/anywhere else I know of)

In a house.
There is nothing like an Idiot Vaper who bought his PV to "Beat the Smoking Ban" to flaunt his new toy in the front of other Pub user's to make a Landlord say "No!"
He's already lost his large amount of Smoking Regulars and he is not about to take any chances with the few customers he still has.
Your lucky if you can find a Pub these days anyway.
The Smoking Ban killed the Pub Industry stone dead here in the North of Scotland.

I get into lots of pubs and clubs in the North East (the nature of my work), and so far have had no problem at all - but then I've made a point of not using a cig-alike PV - always a blue or green LED (or none), always none-white battery, and preferably a black tip.

Loads of interest, loads of questions, and a few landlords asking where they can get 'em so they can stock them (not that many carry it out).

So, none to name and shame up here, as yet.

I can only assume they are victim to misinformation, as the first time we went there after begining vaping, we asked the barman if it was OK & he said yes (manager wasn't around)

The next time the same barman approached me before I got to the bar & informed me that the manager had ruled that they were not allowed.

So I went round to the 12 Bar Club (across the road more or less) & had a pint & a vape there.

Have any breweries made statements about their pubs?

Andy,

I work for Greene King and we've not made any statement about it. I'm not aware of anyone else who has either. There has been a bit of talk in the trade press but nothing really of any consequence :(

My bet is that it would be JD Wetherspoon would probably be the first to say anything as they usually like the headlines.

Thanks for the info Matt. If you do hear of any policies being formed, could you please keep us informed. I hope that no brewery/chain comes out against vaping.

I would have thought that the first one to openly embrace vaping would see a dramatic turnaround in business in next to no time

I went into my local (Mai Tai, in Poole Dorset) and went straight to the manager to check its ok and he'd seen them at a show and was interested in getting one himself.

Did get a few strange looks from others in the bar (prob cos I hold my 510 like a pipe). Few people asked and showed them and they thought vaping is a great idea - just seems no one knows about it.

Forgot to mention - Mai Tai is a cocktail bar and am talking to them about endorsing e-cigs and actually mixing their own flavours to go inline with the cocktails

Will be great if we can pull it off - only thing concerning the boss is the long term health risks of e-cigs. Obviously doesn't want to endorse something that "could" be bad for you (as opposed to letting people get off their heads on cocktails and fall about in the street every night)

OK here's an update from me!

It would appear that my prediction was wrong re. JDW being the first pub company to have a policy regarding e-cigs.

I received a company e-mail this morning that said that my employer (greene king) are trialling e-cig vending machines in a number of pubs. I've never seen an e-cig vending machine before so this one may be interesting.

The only problem with it is that it seems to dispense the bloody Gamucci Micro!

That'll not last long then!

I'll keep you posted

Matt

it's not JDW that are e-cig friendly, hopefully it'll be Greene King!

I'll try and get a list of the venues with the e-cig vending machines. Apparently there is another company targeting the pub market, NJOY have released the 'weekender' which is a pre-charged e-cig with the equivalent of 40 cigarettes of nicotine in it!

Oh dear, that sounds like a false claim to me!
