Hello everyone,

For the last 2 and a half years, we have had a 'Campaign for vaping in Pubs' running in the UK.

We believe that promoting ecigs to smokers in bars and pubs is a good way of getting smokers to switch to ecigs and help re-create the 'good old days' of community in local watering holes.

Here in the UK, we have had major problems in getting the message across and garnering support from pubs, breweries and the rest of the licensed trade. They seem to need 'evidence' that allowing vaping would in some way benefit them, before even entertaining the idea of 'vaping in Pubs'.

The old argument of it 'looks like smoking and will encourage smokers to light up' keeps getting thrown in our face.

We have identified over 500 pubs that are quite happy to allow this legal alternative to smoking in pubs, but we need to encourage the big players to get behind us - but they need 'figures' before even considering the idea.

If you have any anecdotal evidence of pubs or bars that have benefited from allowing or even selling ecigs and having an increase in foot-fall/profits or even a better sense of community, please get in touch via a response on this thread or by pm/email.

We need your help to get ecigs accepted by the companies that can make a difference and potentially save thousands of lives and improve the community aspect of our society.

Can you make a difference? Have you some evidence that big companies will take notice of? Do you just know a landlord/licensee who has seen a difference since promoting ecigs?

Please get in touch.

Don't get me wrong, I think this is a great idea and can only raise awareness of alternatives to smoking. However, and this could just be my opinion...we as vapers will usually ask permission before vaping indoors out of courtesy. If we choose not to, are we in fact breaking any laws? Surely people can just vape regardless as we are not doing anything wrong.

In reference to their 'old argument' though, I look at it like this....at present, they cater for smokers by providing smoking areas etc. Being a pub, their business would suffer greatly if they didn't offer these areas as smokers would probably go to a place that does, so they should concede that they do in fact cater for smokers. Therefore people 'lighting up' is not really a valid point.

As I said, I'm very much behind your ideas here, but I think until a ruling has been made on electronic cigarettes, it's almost like most people don't know they exist and will be naturally apprehensive towards what they dont understand.

Good luck with this though, and if I hear of anything that may help the cause, I'll be sure and post it :)

This makes me so angry. So they will only do it if there is yet MORE money in it for THEM? There is absolutely no reason why they cannot allow it. a month ago i was an inpatient in a major hospital for a week. i had only just started vaping. When i mentioned this to the doctor he said carry on with the vaping. So being a bit of a cheeky minx i ask tongue in cheek if i could vape on the ward. He said "yeah go right ahead. Not a problem" To say i was stunned was an understatement. i spent the next week having great fun shocking people and constantly being reported to staff..one even told the sister there's a nutter on the ward smoking in bed :vapor: :D
Anyway, i digress. if it is ok and accepted by medical doctors and lung specialists to boot!!! Why are the pubs etc so far behind the times? Surely people vaping inside will increase trade and also keep the pavements and beer gardens much cleaner with no butts swamped all over the place?
Maybe getting the all clear from the medical professions in some form might help? Also pointing out that vaping inside a pub increases the comfort and enjoyment for these people who, i suspect would be likely to spend more money in a place they feel relaxed and at ease without having to face the thought of going outside in the wet and cold every so often on a night out.
