Hey folks,

Me again and I have a hardware review of my brand spankin new (to me, TY again Switched :) ) PS Icon (or as my friends at VapeTalk call it, "The Mini Provari" )

My first actual PV was the Omega, I loved it and would still suggest it to anyone looking for long battery life and requiring options for 3.7 and 6 v vaping but recently I started wanting something smaller to carry around with me out in public.

I've found that the bigger the device, the less questions I receive about vaping... Seems sort of backwards to me but we all know the social stigmas we have to face.

Batteries -

I am using my Icon with IMR 14500's, specifically Low Res atties of the Cisco and Ikenvape variety and I am getting amazing vapor! I wasn't sure what to expect per se (as I have never used 14500's) but I have noticed my atties actually perform better on these high drains than my Trustfire 18650's. Maybe it's just me but YMMV.

The battery life is considerably shorter than the 18650, which is to be expected and doesn't bother me at all. I simply carry an extra fully charged 14500 with me to be sure I don't end up stuck without a vape.

Body -

The finish on this device is very nice to say the least. I'm not sure if I heard Grimm right or not with regards to the name but I think he said "Media Blasted Finish" and this is pretty much identical to his. It is steel so the weight is strikingly similar to the Aluminum Omega I used to own, even though the difference in size is considerable.

Adapter -

This is the "Top Cap" that holds the threading for your atty and my own just happens to be a 510. What is worth noting is that the atty doesn't seat all the way down into the device and instead seats down most of the way, leaving the air holes exposed. Other devices tend to use the "Cross-Hatching" method to achieve air flow instead.

This is actually a very good thing for me because it has taught me to stop dripping so much and helped me find the perfect sweet spot for my 306's. I do get the occasional leak but nothing like before.

Switch -

This is by far my favorite switch style now that I have tried it. I have been a dripper for a whole year now I think and I've found the biggest flaw with nearly any device is that I simply fill it a little too much and get juice all over my hands.

With the bottom mounted switch I can easily catch the leakage before it gets to my hands. This may not be the case with everyone though as we all hold our devices differently. I personally hold the device near the switch, in between my index finger and thumb and hit the switch with my middle finger.

The locking mechanism is very simplistic and functional as well, works exactly as advertised.

Conclusion -

I've put off on this review for a little while because of all the Canada Post issues (Mentioned in other thread) and after a week of use I haven't had a single problem. If I still owned my Omega it would be sitting on one of my vaping shelves as I like the size, weight and draw of the Icon and get a lot less juice on my hands.

Both PV's are great for different reasons, so don't let this review discourage you if you are looking at an Omega as it served me very well and is just as dependable as the Icon. The only reason I have drawn a comparison between the two is because my only previous experience was with the Omega and home made box mods.

Remember that everything is subjective and that is one of the reasons why so many devices are out there.

Thanks for reading :vapor: Pictures coming soon.

Hmm, I have heard of those devices but never really did any research on them. What issues did you have/ read about? I honestly stand by my word that the Icon is a great PV but I can't attest to any other PS product at all.

I get mixed up. Their first one either the Protege or the Prodigy was great, their second syphoned buffalo cajonas. The V3 is their 3rd and the Icon their 4th.

BTW! Only JoyE attys sit properly on the Icon. Why I don't know but this is the case as well with the V3. I am not sure what is going on there as I have taps for all the standard atty threads. This is in the PureSmoker disclaimer on their site. They all work, but JoyEs work/fit better.

Good to hear you are happy Noize. By the way I did modify it from a stainless - bottom connector to brass. That made a world of difference. So no need to upgrade it. When your batts die, go with AW as they are indeed true performers. I have made the 20mm prototype with 2 tubes: one for the 26500 AW and the other with the 26650. Hands down the AW outshines the other twice a day and 3 times on Sundays. Now I need to check out for longevity of 2300 vice 4000mAh<---- I believe this figure to be inflated. The 2300 belonging to the AW. Regardless, the AW out performs the other brand, especially on LRs.

the issues were the switch. on both. my protege burnt 2 atomizers because of the switch (would get stuck and stay on).poor design.but its good to hear that the new pv's are better.

Yup!

The V3 and Icon took a while to take off. I am glad Steve was able to put the P series flop behind him and moved ahead. The new switch design was indeed carefully thought out.

After continuously blowing Ego's (7 now) to electrical faults and 3 Rivas due to switch failure within the period of a year of vaping, I have had it with sealed battery units. Some of the ego's got scary since they started to get really hot and smoke. Fortunately, I keep a bucket of sand in the garage, and all of the incidents happened at home.

Regardless, I wanted a compact PV for being out and about that also had a decent battery life. The ProVape was just too big for a 14500 unit, although I love my provari, its size makes it too cumbersome to take with me. I will never again go near a product from Vaprlife. While they have some compact 14500 units, my experience with the Joker AV and Vaprlife's terrible CS, snotty attitude, and poor QC turned me off to them. There were not many other options out there for what I was looking for.

The Icon fits the bill in terms of size and battery life. It's a sturdy unit that is well made. It's all mechanical. I have a number of units: DSE 905 and Screwdriver with 901's which I like for some juices, a Buzz, Indulgence and a remaining 510 USB passthrough which I use in the car.

Were you using standard resistance or LRs on your eGos?

Will do for sure, I love how well these batts work and if AW's are even better then I will give them a shot 110%.

Awesome to know about the mod you did to the switch! I was wondering what the diff was between the two but felt no need to upgrade :) now I know why.

Well, I've spent a bit more time with my Icon and it is still impressing me! I tried it with IKV atomizers and Switched's point about joye atties working better is very true. There is such a difference in vapor it is not even funny but when I put my IKV on my eGo-T Mega batt it performs like new again.

Thanks for the heads up :) otherwise I would have been totally confused lol.

Ummmm, I was referring to the threads of the atty not the atty itself.

As was I actually, lol sorry I should have avoided posting when I am this tired haha.

I find it doesn't seat down all the way and does effect the performance for me. I tried the IKV 306 on the Icon and thought maybe something was wrong until I threaded it onto my eGo-T mega batt.

Not a negative at the atty, the Icon is just threaded for Joye as you stated previously.
