I bought the Purple eFest just over a week ago to replace a 10 amp battery. I went into a store looking for a VTC but they were out and offered me a "35 amp" eFest. I was suspicious already, because I had seen plenty of recommendations for the top performance Sonys. I bought it anyway and came home and figured out its true ratings.

I wanted to use 24 gauge and I wasn't comfortable with a 35 amp pulse so I picked up a VTC5 at another shop. I quickly went to Google to check its authenticity, and it seemed to pass all of the standard tells with counterfeit batteries. The only thing that I noticed was that my VTC5 had the info printed onto a silver label, rather than the green cover itself. An image search showed quite a few other supposed VTC5s with the same label so I wasn't too concerned. I have only cycled it 4 times now and it has been very disappointing.

I am getting a better hit and longer life out of my purple eFests. I am aware that the eFest is a rebranded LG with inferior stats when compared to the VTC5 so I'm confused. I have read somewhere that the VTC5s have a break in period? That seems ludicrous to me, but the only other possibility is that they are defective or counterfeit.

Any ideas?

That shouldn't be at all. I've seen thousands of VCT5's, as my friend works at a B&M, and not a single one hasn't has the battery information printed directly on the green heat wrap. I've never heard of having a break in period either, all of mine have outperformed my other batteries (MXJO 2500 mah 35A and the e-fest you have) right out of the box.

Personally I would say it is counterfeit unfortunately, but I would need to see it to be sure. Will you please upload a photo? Also, what mod are you using these batteries on? What is the resistance of your atomizer build?

Chipotle.
I own both of the batteries in question and use them on a daily basis equally, the VTC5 outperforms the LG18650HE2 but depending on the scenario it can be pretty close. The LG18650HE2 is a really nice battery and vaping below 15A you would be hard pressed to tell them apart from the VTC5, but once you get over 15A and into 20-25A+ the VTC5 vastly outperforms the LG18650HE2, as should be expected as the LG is a 20A sustained cell. Either way, the VTC5 does outperform the LG in all aspects.

It could possibly be counterfeit if there is a really noticeable difference between your two batteries, post some pictures so those with known genuine sony cells can compare and see what's going on.

My VTC3s and 4s have printing on what seems to be the metal casing of the battery. Some suppliers add a label that says '18650 3.7V 2100mAh' to satisfy shipping regulations.

In my experience there is no noticeable break-in period for these batteries.

You say 'at another shop'. How sure are you they sell real Sony batteries?
