I'm getting close to building my prototype for my rba and one of the lingering questions is wall thickness for the pyrex tank. I'm going with 3/4inch ID. I was thinking I needed a thick wall so I decided to go 1inch OD but that size tube is virtually impossible to find.

I've found some 19mm ID, 22mm OD (1.5mm wall) and some 19mm ID 24mm OD (2.5mm wall) but thats about it. Is 1.5 pushing it?

hrm, close to what I need. My issue is the RBA I'm buildng really needs a 19mm ID. A couple of folks have told me 1.5mm wall is 'fine' but I'm leaning more towards 2.5. Schott makes a tube size thats 24x2.5 (i.e. 24mm OD, 2.5mm wall) giving me a 19mm ID or ~3/4 inch. I just can't find a company that will process it for me and I'm not equipped to really cut and drill glass and I don't really 'want' to be equipped for that just yet.

yeah, I've found a couple places that will make the tubing for me :) not cheap but I don't really care, I just like making stuff. with the design I'm working, the glass will be handled frequently so I need it to be durable and properly treated when it's processed. That's not something I know enough about to trust myself doing so I'm having it done by a pro. I'll stick to the machining and design part with the materials I'm comfortable with ;)
