Just a quick question here, mostly for curiosity's sake than anything. While on the phone with Totally Wicked about a product I ordered that wasn't working properly, the customer service person said something about their eGo batteries only lasting about 3 months before needing replaced. Now I know that rechargeable batteries do eventually need replaced as they do slowly lose their ability to hold a charge, but I also know that a friend of mine has batteries from them that have lasted near a year for them and still going. Is this something that they are pretty much just covering their butts in case someone were to try and throw a fit about dead batteries, or is this something I can expect to be an actual issue with having to buy new batteries that often and my friend is just particularly lucky that his have lasted as long as they have. Obviously I don't expect these batteries to last forever, just curious how long I can expect one to last on average before needing replaced.

On average, ego batteries last 1 year, 325-450 charges as it says with each battery...I have some 15-17 months old that still work fine...3 months is a snow job that they are telling you..

BTW, I've bought many $8 clone ego 1300a batts that last forever....and never had a battery die in less than 6-8 months unless the button broke and I only paid $7 for it..

and U always need 2 batteries and 2 clearomizers..

It does depend on a number of factors. If the electronics are cheap, they're likely to break long before the battery even thinks about dying, and in my experience that tends to happen in the first three months or so (usually about 2 days out of warranty).

If you're a heavy vaper and discharge and recharge batteries often (as I am), batteries don't last as long. Every recharge cycle takes a toll on them.

Still, I've had batteries go 14 months. By the end of that period their lifespan is nothing to write home about, but they still work.

Read somewhere that ego batteries can be charged about 300 times, so if you charge your battery everyday that will be about 10 months. I have 3 ego batteries that I rotate for work, charge them about twice per week so with the 3 batteries I'm expecting to get a bit over 2 years use out of them. I'm at about 8 months now & all are going strong.

Lithium batteries don't self-discharge like older technologies, but they do lose capacity with time. If you keep your batteries full and warm, then they could have as little as half their capacity left after a year, even if you never charge them. (About 60% and cool are optimum, but it's not generally realistic.)

So a year or so would be when you would think about retiring them, but anything else can only be down to bad quality.

Thanks for the replies, I thought she was blowing smoke out her .... when she told me the batteries only last 3 months. I only have to charge mine once every 26 to 29 hours, so there are some days where I don't even charge it, and if most of these get 300+ charges before dying off, I should be good for quite a while. I don't feel that these are cheapys, they seem solid enough and are a heck of a lot better than the knockoffs I bought from my local store, and I know my one friend has batteries from this place that he has been using for a year, was just double checking.

As a side question, I have a passthrough style battery, does anyone know if this thing will still work while plugged in even if the lifespan of the battery itself is gone? I would think as much, but then again I know of laptops that don't turn on if the battery is completely dead and won't charge. If this thing can still be used while plugged in, I might keep it around even after it's not holding a charge just as a backup.

There are true passthrus and ones that use the battery charge while you are charging. The MVP uses the battery charge while charging, but as long as there is some charge in the battery, I don't see why it wouldn't work with mainly off the passthru. I just wouldn't leave it plugged in and if it warms up too much, unplug it.

I have two passthru ego's that I have been using for a year. I just recently upgraded (woohoo!!) and got a patriot rda and svd, and I love it! However, I am using Efest IMR18650 2000 mAh and I can't even make it thru the day on fully charged battery?? I have been reading the patriot may need the air hole drilled out, will this make it hit better? I'm new to all this stuff and sooooo confused! Any help would be appreciated!

I've been wondering lately whether a battery life can be extended by giving it more than the usual charge.

I have one of those Electric Bikes, and when new, the first 3 charges must be a full 12 hour charge, (a regular charge is around 4 hours). After that, it is advised to periodically fully drain the battery and give them another full 12 hour charge, (I do this about once a month).

Could the same be said of EC batteries? The first 3 charges at 8hrs, followed by a periodical full 8hr charge.

The MVP Manual says, "the occasional complete discharge and lengthy charge is advisable to keep the internal battery optimized to it fullest."

However, like has already been said, the electronics can fail before the battery gives out. Really, really must stop dropping mine!!!

My own ego sized batteries only lasted about 3 months. Had a faulty charger though and that didn't help;
Liquid getting down inside past the center pin doesn't help;
One literally got a bit wet and instantly konked out.

The batteries inside of them could have lasted much longer I expect but the other stuff can cause problems first.

With a regulated mod at least if the mod goes bad you still have the batteries and use them in another mod.
With a mech mod with a kick and spare parts you can get all our bases covered.

So I've gotten a few votes that this thing should last me at least 300 charges before conking out, and one vote for really bad luck with chargers and moisture knocking them out before that. Far as I know my chargers are good, and I swap between two flavors daily and clean the inside of the battery tip for the liquid that leaked out of the clearomizer, so I should be good, least I hope so, not really enough money at this time to invest in bigger mods.
