question about charging batteries

When the battery is unscrewed from the charger, it doesn't know that the charger is still plugged in....so no. There's either a connection or no connection. Shouldn't matter. It disconnects after a few spins.

That said....don't leave the charger plugged into the wall when done either. Why stress the charger and/or use up power when not needed? (it's a "sneak power drain" from the A/C to USB converter). So I'd unplug them (the A/C to USB "wall wart" and the charger) . Protects it from surges (like lightning strikes too) and saves you a few cents per year.
