I'm new to all of this so I hope I don't sound too numb haha. I quit smoking August 28th and have been vaping ever since :). I started out with cartridges but found them to be not so satisfying and expensive! I went on to an Evod which I liked, I recently purchased a ego spinner and a vision spinner which I LOVE! My question is the local smoke shop employee told a friend of mine that you have to use the 2.0 or 2.5 coils or it will fry the battery, so I bought them and when I tried using them and my juice was nasty and burnt tasting. I turned it down and it still tasted gross so I went back to the 1.8 and it tastes good again??? Did we get inaccurate information? I really don't want to kill these batteries but can't do the stronger coils.....advice?? Thanks

Yeah, I don't think that's very accurate. I've used 2.5 on my spinners without issue. As others have said, whenever you switch heads, you should start out at a low setting and work your way up. If you overheat the coil on the first shot, well, it's going to pretty much continue to taste rancid for a while regardless. Technically, the 1.8 would (should) burn before the 2.0-2.5 at a higher voltage, so there just may be something else going on.

No worries,

You won't damage you batteries with higher ohm coils, you just won't get a warmer vape until you ramp the voltage up. Where you will ruin the batteries is running a very low ohm coil such as 1.0 or lower. Those aren't available as far as I know, so 1.8 is ideal. If you're getting a burnt taste, it might be your juice is delicate such as vanilla custards ans such. My wife uses exactly what you have and has never gotten a burned taste until she sets the voltage to high.

Generally when that happens, I have to disassemble the head, run it under hot water for a few minutes, dry burn for 3 to 5 seconds a few times until the coil turns red. Then I replace the loose "flavor wick" and it's good to go for another week.

Good luck!

From my experience with my protank 2, it's about fluid flow. If your not getting enough juice to the coil through the wicks then you will get a burnt taste. A lot of the prebuilt coils have what the call a "flavor wick". When using thicker juices such as 50/50 and higher vg It tends to impede the flow which leads to burnt taste IMHO. I rebuild my heads on my protank, the head I'm vaping on is 1.6 ohms and I'm vaping it at 4.1 volts on my Provari. It is wicked with cotton and does not have the "flavor" wick. I have not had a burnt taste at all.

Just something to test, you can take the chimney off the head and remove the "flavor wick" off the top of the coil and try that to see if it changes the burning.

Question: How often do you have to change out the cotton? I see the utube videos on how to build them but no one says when to change them.
