OK, so I had another thread discussing my problems with the center post coming out of the base of my CE5. After a couple days of messing with it, I determined it was not worth it due to the very low cost of replacement bases from a couple online vendors.

I ordered two new bases from Groove-E-Juice and some new atty heads. I got them in and finally got around to filling my first tank. I filled it with a flavor I do not vape all day so it sat in my case until later that evening. I found most of it had already leaked out. When I got the new base and heads, I did immediately notice there were some differences between my original bases and heads (SLB brand) and the ones I ordered as seen below:

The one of the left is the replacement I ordered, and is about the exact same one found on many other vendor websites. The base is a slightly different shape, but the rubber head is what I am guess is the culprit. The replacement has simply a flat facing side that the bottom of my mouthpiece should be making contact with and seals. As you can see from the one on on the right though, it is more domed shape. So my question is, is the one of the left or the one on the right more typically known as a CE5?

HI telijah,
The one on the left, bought from your link, is a Vision copy and is the more common. EGO Electronic Cigarette Kit, 510 Starter Kit, Electronic Cigarette Cartomizers - Vision High Technology Vision now puts a "V" on the metal base ring because of all the copying. We have been having this discusion forever it seems- CE5, 2.0 and even V3, I could even say something else but im tired. The thing that you really need to know is, its the replaceable head version 1.6 ml.
The one on the right is the SLB and do the parts work---your probably going to know better than anybody.
As your finding out, this China market is a mess and will get worse. The parts may not work from one manufactor to the next. Look close at everything before you buy. I do, and noticed this linked clearomizer{ce5 vision 3, stardust} comes with a 2.8 ohm head.

Thanks JA. I pretty much figured out the same reading through all the stuff on discountvapers.com. And then, grooveejuice sent me a lengthy email explaining basically the same thing. My email to them was basically asking if they are sure they sold be bases and heads for CE5s, and here was their response:

-----
Yes, I am positive that the base and the head are both for a CE5.
Here's the problem- depending on the manufacturer (which are all in China), they have slightly different manufacturing methods and products for the same items. Plus, some of them have different names. What we know as a CE5 here in the US is usually called a CE5 in China, but some companies call them CE4 and some call them CE4+.

What we know as a CE4 has no replaceable heads, bases, or tubes. The predecessor to the CE5. I have not sold CE4's in nearly a year now.
What we know as the CE5 has the replaceable heads, tubes and bases. This is what we sell, along with the replacement parts.

So back to the different manufacturers. We are just now discovering the wide range of incompatibility across the board on these items. The spare heads we carry are made by Vision. These are guaranteed to work on all Vision CE5's, but not so much with other companies items, such as what SLB manufacturers. THe problem we have now here @ Groove-E-Juice is that we switched our CE5's to Young June for better quality in the manufacturing process ( we had a lot of leaking issues with the Vision CE5's). It turns out that, on our end, there is a slight difference in the height of the base for the replaceable heads to the Young June bases, making them sometimes not make a full connection. You'll notice on our website that we pulled them from the shelves temporarily until we get this whole situation figured out.

We did figure out a 'quick fix' for this, which involves using your fingernail to gently lower the bottom middle post of the coil head (just below the rubber seal) just a touch, no more than 1/16 of an inch or so, to make a full connection to our bases (manufactured by Young June).

This might work on your SLB CE5's, but I cannot guarantee that. In looking at your photo, you are correct. They do look very different.

You are correct, too in saying that the leaking issue is a result of the seal not making a full connection. 9 times out of 10, that is the problem when a CE5 leaks from the base.

Another question I have for you is does the tube you have from your SLB thread onto the base you bought from us? I only ask because the threading from a Vision CE5 is different than that of the threading from a YoungJune CE5. Just curious.

I don't know how you want to do this, if the heads and bases are completely incompatible with your current setup. If I sold you the CE5, I would be happy to send you replacements or credit you, but I'm not sure what to do since your CE5 didn't come from us in the first place. Let me know what you think and I'm sure we can work something out.
-----

I must say, for a seemingly small joint, they are very open to try and help me. I am sure at this point, since my CE5s came from elsewhere, I'll have to chalk this up as a mistake on my end for not doing enough research on this and will just have to make a mental note of only buying replacement pieces for CE5s from the same vendors I got the CE5s from in the first place.
