Hello,

I recently purchased the Aspire Zelos 50W Kit and it came with the nautilus 2 tank. I am really enjoying it so far, but have a question.

I started with the 1.6 ohm coil and to me it works great. I decided to try the .7 ohm coil in there today and it works well too, but I think I get more flavor from the 1.6 ohm coil.

Anyway, on to my question. I am currently vaping 12 mg nicotine ejuices and I read somewhere that when you go to a lower ohm coil people recommend a lower nicotine level because it can obscure the flavor. Is there any truth to that? I will probably switch back to the 1.6 ohm coil since I personally seem to like it better, but just wanted some other opinions.

Thanks & Happy New Year!

Well, to an extent. I'm pretty familiar with that tank, and I actually prefer the original 1.6 coils (they don't come with the tank). For me it's the perfect balance of slightly more vape without sacrificing flavor.

I didn't lower my nic with the 0.7 coils, and I do think they were a bit more "thirsty" but I rarely use them anymore. They did last longer, and I actually think most folks say to lower nic because usually you will be vaping at a slightly higher wattage, and going through more juice. I didn't change any settings (airflow or wattage) on my 0.7 coils, and they were a bit more "thirsty" and with perhaps slightly longer life (but at the time I was using close to 100% vg, I have since substituted 10% distilled water and it's a better vape-- in every way-- including coil life. I use DW since I am a bit PG sensitive).

I'm not sure if nic "mutes" flavor to that degree (it's not a supremely low resistance coil) but it might. You could try reducing nic a bit and see if that makes a difference. To me, the flavor was about equal, and may have even been better at slightly higher wattage, but I didn't use them long enough to really experiment.

I think people say lower their nic when sub ohming, but that doesn't really apply to that .7 coil unless your direct lung inhaling at much higher power...if you had a sub tank with perhaps sub ohm coils and we're vaping them at 50 watts dtl, then most do reduce their nic, but a nautilus. 7 ohm coil doing mtl, you aren't going or have to lower nic because there's not much of a difference between that and the 1.6 coil .

I would say it doesn’t obscure the flavor so much as potentially nic you out. Sub ohm vapes often produce huge amounts of vapor and are very thirsty. I’ve heard of people going through a 60ml bottle in a single day using big sub ohm puffer RDAs that can get to be a LOT of nicotine. Using a nautilus 2 though I don’t think you’ll have that problem. It’s a mtl RDA even with sub ohm coils in it.

I've used that tank quite a bit, and I only have vapped from 0-6mg juices, and I have the same experience. The .7 ohm seemed like I was just vaping plain hot juice. It could have been some setting I never changed due to my inexperience, I am not really sure. But I can confirm the same problem at lower nic too. It was on an aspire VV stick, can't remember the name of it. That tank came on it though.

Use a magnifying glass and look at the coil again. The kit comes with the 1.8 and .7. The 1.6 I guess could have been put in your kit, but I’ll bet it’s a 1.8. The only reason I mention it is that a lot of us dedicated tight draw MTL vapers use the 1.8 exclusively.
