I am only about 3 months into vaping at the moment and I am just wondering if there are any dangers to sub-ohming. Other than the obvious dangers of shorts and stuff like that. I have a degree in electronics technology so I know a decent amount about resistances, voltage and amperage. I'm more interested in any dangers of heating the ejuice that hot that fast. I have a .4 ohm dual coil on a sony 18650 30 amp battery in my private v2 clone. The vape is just much hotter than what i'm used to around 1-2 ohms. Also is there anyway to cool the vape off other than raising my resistance. Thanks in advance.

A longer drip tip will increase the distance of the coil to your mouth, allowing the vapor to cool. Something like Vape Labs Popeye (surgical grade stainless steel, double o-rings, at $30). The Freudian Tip from Pink Spot Vapors will work, as well as the Long Drip Tip from My Freedom Smokes.

I personally prefer a cooler vape. When I made my coils for my Provari, I made 2.0 ohm single coils.

Yes there are. To start with just by the fact that you are asking you need to stop using a .4 ohm coil. Batteries can and do go into thermal runaway. There are several pictures on here that show what can happen. You can start a fire with that setup. As for the heat of the vape one way to cool it is use a long drip tip/ Like a 70 mm tip and have a large air hole. But seriously if your ohm meter is off by just a little you could actually be vaping a .2 ohm coil and that is the very lowest you should ever go if you have tons of experience. I sure don't build them like that Now don't take that to mean I have tons of experience. I am pretty much a noob to building sub ohm. I know you can get a great amount of vapor and flavor with a 1.2 ohm. The lowest I hit is .7 ohm. Go to the blogs section and search for Baditude he has written Extensively on the subject. READ READ READ! ALthough I suspect you just might see him pay a visit to this thread as he seams to magically appear whenever someone is about to ruin a battery or a house.

See he was responding as I was typing. I knew he would be here.

What, someone posts that they are running a .4 ohm coil and you don't bat an eye? I am surprised to say the least. LOL

I understand the dangers in running sub-ohm as far as the battery is concerned. I know that my ohm meter is accurate, not only do I use a meter that a co-worker has, but I personally use a Fluke multimeter to check all my coils. But in all honesty I'm thinking about stepping up the resistance just for the simple fact that I don't like the hot vape that i'm getting from it and when I said in my original post it was .4 it's actually .47 ohms. I don't use this as my all day vape, it's more like I hit it once or twice with quick 1-2 sec pulses. Then put it down for an hour or two.

Sorry to disappoint you. :p He did say, "Other than the obvious dangers of shorts and stuff like that. I have a degree in electronics technology so I know a decent amount about resistances, voltage and amperage." He's already using a 30 amp rated battery.

Here goes nothing:

I was just surprised is all. It seems that any time someone says something about running a super low ohm coil your Johnnie on the spot so to speak.

In all honestly I was one who never figured I would go sub-ohm. However I finally did and played around with several builds. What i found worked best for me was a .7-.9, thats where i found flavor to still be decent and still be able to fill a room with a couple of big lung hits. Im not into cloud chasing mainly because I have to use higher pg, being one of the oddballs that has vg sensitivity.
