My question is: when increasing the wattage, is the voltage supposed to increase with it, and vice versa?

I'm currently using the eleaf 50W with a nautilus mini (1.8ohm) but I'm going to upgrade to a kanger subtank mini so I can start sub ohming. However, I've noticed that people use high wattage and low voltage when sub ohming. But with my 50W mod, I can't have one low and one high. Is this normal for the eleaf 50W?

The iStick 50 is a regulated mod. (I have 2) When you adjust the wattage, the mod adjusts the voltage. If you select to adjust the voltage, the iStick will adjust the wattage. It's a safety issue. I keep mine set on watts.

I have both the Nautilus and Subtank Mini's and love them. I started with the Subtank Mini 1.2 ohm coils (15 to 20W) and haven't moved much from it because I enjoy the vape there.

Thanks for the quick reply. So when you set your eleaf to 20W for example, what does it display as your voltage? (If you have it handy to tell me). And is it safe to sub ohm 0.5 ohm at 15 to 20W with the voltage automatically adjusted accordingly?

After taking a hit it will tell you what the coil ohm is, the watts you are vaping with and what the iStick has set the volts at. As to the .5 ohm coil (and ANY vape device) start low (around 15 watts in this case) hit it and bump it up. If it gets too warm or starts to taste burnt, back it down.

Click 3 times on the fire button and select watts (my preference). Then I just take hits in the previous method and let the iStick do the math for voltage.

Good luck (you'll be fine).

Thanks for clearing this up for me. I was worried that it wouldn't automatically adjust or something, because I used to use an MVP 20W and that allowed me to set the watts and volts separately.

Any recommendations for PG/VG when sub ohming?

I personally use 70vg for my subohm setups. Much smoother, doesn't tear your throat up, 6mg nic. Most of the subohm tanks are setup for higher VG juices.

I don't know what you're currently using (VG/PG), but I doubt it will be much different. Two issues do arise with sub ohms, Throat hit and Throat hit. 99% of vapers I have seen in here have lowered their nic level in juice by half or more. 6mg is about the highest I have seen someone sub at, and most are really lower because nic can cause massive throat hit at high levels. You're also going to guzzle juice with a subtank. More juice = more nicotine consumption. The secong throat hit is PG. PG is the second cause of TH. Some people lower PG and raise VG when sub ohming, but I really haven't seen the need in my vape experience. It's one of those issues you have to just sort out for yourself.

Yeah looking forward to experimenting and finding the right balance, should've tried sub ohming a long time ago.

The kanger subtank mini is apparently rebuildable too, but I'm not interested in any building right now, just going to use the OCC coils. Will I still be ok with this tank, or will rebuilding be forced upon me? Not too keen on the nano, the capacity is quite low...

I bought spare OCC coils for my subtanks. They are really easy to rebuild, so don't throw any away. You can use the OCC coils of 1.2 or .5 factory made. You aren't forced to coil build, but for 10 bucks of cotton and wire you'll be set up for a long time. I'd suggest looking into the Kuro Koiler coiling jig, I got mine from Fasttech for like 9 bucks, works great.

Look up ohms law. There are calculators on line available. And yes voltage up means watts up .

I'd like to clear something up here. On all vv/vw mods, you can EITHER choose to display volts or watts adjustment. Without exception, if you change one, the other also changes. Watts are just the measurement of power. Your mod changes watts by changing the voltage and will maintain the same wattage if resistance changes. Adjusting the voltage changes the watts because, by changing the volts you are changing the power produced.
Kind of like cruise control. Watts is cruise on, cruise control maintains the same speed regardless of terrain by changing throttle when needed. With cruise off, you must apply more throttle yourself when you come to a hill.
