hi there, I'm not an expert but for me and what works well is using about 1/2 the amps on the charger / wall adapter source to the mah (capacity) of the battery to be charged. For example I charge my 1000mah battery using a wall adapter rated at 500mah (half of an amp). This is approximate but in this area has worked well for me. That same 1000mah battery will charge with a wall adapter output of 300mah but will take longer and also as a positive generate less heat to the cells being charged possibly extending the cells/battery life. I believe the iPhone adapters output around 1A and personally would not use it and would go with less output to your battery.
only my 2 cents but works for me!
