Question concerning coils

Hey all

as the title states, I have a question regarding coils. How long do they last on average?
I got a new liquid lately, at first it was great but now it just tastes burned.
I made a coil with 28 gauge, 8 wraps (1.5 ohm vaping between 10 - 13 watts) about a week ago and now it is like no matter what I get a slight burned taste.
I've been changing wicks a lot lately because they get burned way faster than usual but a new one doesn't seem to make much of difference.
is it the coil? Should I wrap a new one?

I follow most of RipTrippers advice, so I've squeezed the coil tight so there are no hotspots. I use a kayfun, my coil is quite close to the airhole but not extremely close. I've been experimenting a bit with the wicking lately. First I was doing what Riptripper said and used a small wick and pushed it up agains the walls of the deck, then I tried doing it like Vapingwithtwisted420 and just stuffed cotton into the chimney. Worked pretty well the first time but then kinda sucked the other 3 times I changed wicks. Then I went back to riptripper's way with this new wick. the wick I use now is kinds thin, fits loose in the coil.

personally with my kayfuns/russian ive found having my coil up at about the height of the screws works best for me, i tried build after build after build and wasnt until i raised it i started getting the flavor and vapor production i wanted, took me round 100 builds to really be able to get it right every time, keep at it ull get it eventually just dont give up they really are incredible atomizers

Your wicking may be too tight....make sure the cotton slides freely and not twisted or rolled tight. Choking the wick causes dry hits and a terrible burnt taste.
