With all the confusion with which batteries are recommended for mechanical mods, I have a question for the Provape tech engineers about which batteries they recommend the highest as being the safest for the Provape-1.

I see Provape sells the Trustfire 14500 protected ICR as a battery option for the Provape-1. Most sources that I have come across caution that any Trustfire, Surefire, or Ultrafire battery is a lesser quality battery. If this bears any truth, why does Provape sell these?

It seems that most current recommendations for safer batteries are for quality IMR safe-chemistry batteries over protected ICR batteries for both regulated and mechanical mods. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/129569-rechargeable-batteries.html

If this is the current wisdom, and with Provape's reputation for always taking safety into consideration for their products and customers, why are the Trustfires being sold on the website?

I think being that it doesn't boost and is amperage limited, you are probably fine using a protected icr. You are not going to be able to put any stress on the battery over what it is rated for, the battery has a protection circuit and the mod has a bunch of protections/fail safes. It's almost a unique situation at this point in the mod world. At that point you might as well take the extra mah. I'd probably go with the AW protected because A. I trust the brand more and B. The capacity is probably more realistically listed.

The IMR may be better or even safer but I think this is one of the few cases in which a protected icr is perfectly safe in e-cigs.

Hey all, I am so sorry for the delayed response. When we started with the PV-1 the Trustfire 14500 battery was one of the few options available at that time. The AW protected 14500 cell came along after and we started offering those for use with the PV1. Most people purchase the AW batteries with their PV1, so we don’t sell a lot of the Trust fire cells. With some recent testing we have found that the IMR version of the 14500 cell from AW has a lower resistance and is better to use. The AW IMR cells arrived recently and we are working on changing over to that cell for the PV1.

Thank you for the quick response jennifer. This conforms to the most recent information and recommendations that I have been able to find concerning which battery chemistry is the more safer between protected ICR vs safe chemistry IMR batteries. It's good to see that Provape chooses to stay current with providing the best and safest batteries for use in our personal vaporizers.
