Question for Veterans,,, Venting

Newbie here,,,,,
Just upgraded to a Bolt (lovin' it) and am conscerned about the (TINY) hole in the end
Should one drill 3 holes symetrically around the bottom circumfrence of the body (say,,, 5/16ths in dia?)
I'm very careful with batts/chargers and have the stock (SmokeTech 18500) batt for now and have ordered 1pr Ultrafire 18500's and 1pr AW IMR 18500's to be on the safe-side (and yes, I know for protected batts, the Trustfire might? be better,,, but I'm a newb and got a decent deal on the UF's,,, first mistake, right?)
Anyway, I'm considering drilling the holes about 3/4" to 1" from the bottom (man,,, I wish these things had endcaps),,, any advise?
All appreciated, thanks

Hi & Welcome to ECF! I haven't had any experience with the Bolt so my only suggestions are generic: first, I would NOT make any alterations without the advice (and probably with 2nd, & 3rd confirmations) of folks who have modded this mod and have substantial reasons for having done so. Second, I would not scrimp on batteries.

I expect before I get this posted you'll have other responses from folks with a lot more useful info than I can offer, but congratulations on switching from tobacco & from all I've read you made an excellent choice with the Bolt.

Happy (& Safe) vaping! :vapor:

BTW, I'm no engineer but from my very limited body of knowledge if you're using the recommended batteries for your PV the tiny vent hole should be all that's needed. As a general rule, if something's working well I avoid re-engineering it on my own because I figure the guy who designed it to begin with probably made a helluva lot more money than I did (and one would hope, knew a lot more about what he was doing too). :D To my way of thinking, any additional venting is probably unnecessary, and drilling holes in the unit would diminish its structural integrity considerably (which may or may not matter). It would also almost certainly void any warranty the PV may carry.

Best of luck! :toast:

Thanks gentlemen, this is what I'm hoping to hear
I bought the pair of AW's and am going to use them from here-on-out
I read only positive stuff about 'em and am converted
The "Warning - rechargeable batteries for mods" Thread is my bible regarding vaping
From my understanding, as long as I use good batts/chargers, a voltage meter, don't overcharge, be careful upon first-fire after charging (or better yet, fire away from the face/body upon first-fire after charging) and check the voltage before/after charging (never going below 2.4 or over 4.2 volts for an 18500 1600 mAh?),,, I should have a good experience
This is the Place to be to learn safe vaping
Thanks again, I look forward to it

Steve

Oh,,, and one more question,,,
Is it OK to charge only 1 batt at a time?
I only have the one that came with the PV and've read it's not so good to do them alone
I've got a Trustfire TR-001 charger
Please advise
And if it's not good to charge them alone, is it advisable to discharge the pair to approx the same voltage before re-charging 'em?
(I know I'll probably be sent here; http://batteryuniversity.com/)
Thanks,

Steve

I'm not familiar with the TR-001 charger, but if it's anything like most chargers I deal with then the charging spots should be on their own channels for the purpose of monitoring each individual cell. I'm thinking the whole "never charge batteries alone" is meant to apply to matched sets of batteries. I saw the aftermath of a destroyed $4500 precision industrial meter caused by a coworker not heeding the warnings about his sloppy rechargeable battery management practices. However in a single battery mod there is no second cell to fall out of step and potentially fail.

In the end it all comes down to understanding and exercising proper safety procedures.
