Let me start by clarifying that I have never DIY'd e-liquid and I'm not quite ready to take that step.

I have a 30ml bottle of liquid that I bought from a popular vendor. I bought 12mg but the throat hit is too weak for me to fully enjoy it. I should have gotten 18mg. I want to increase the nicotine level to 16 to 18 milligrams but I don't want to dilute the flavor. I'm thinking that adding a few drops of nicotine might do the trick. Trouble is I don't know what brand to buy, where to buy it, or what milligrams to get.

Would someone please point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

if you lack the basic understanding of DIY i would strongly suggest that you forget about it. Anyway it makes no much sense buying nicotine only to fix 30ml of liquid. really I would suggest you sell, trade or give that liquid to someone and buy another bottle of 18mg juice. In the meantime, you can read this forum, learn the basics, and start doing it yourself (the e juice) not to fix an small bottle of weak liquid but because DIY is great! Good luck.

Sounds like good advice.

get 24mg from same brand and same flavor !! then you can have 18mg by mixing without any hassle ...

I have given that some thought but decided against it at this time. The liquid is new to me and I'm not sure yet if I like it enough to buy more. It has great potential. I just don't want to jump the gun.

Not to derail Snowdog's thread, but his question is very relevant to a problem I have. I recently lowered my nic content from 18mg to 12mg. I was getting too much nicotine and spent a lot of my time a little dizzy. Now that I am at 12mg i feel much better, but i really miss the throat hit. I vape a 50/50 mix and enjoy the amount of vapor I get and don't want to lower the volume by upping the pg%. So my question is how can I increase the throat hit? On a side note I am about to mixing my own juice next week when all my orders arrive.

Yeah, my problem is similar. I recently lowered my nic level too. 12mg is enough in some liquids but not so in others. 18mg is just a little too high. I think I need about 16mg to be spot on.

This will work! But after a few days/weeks, you may acclimate to it. It does NOT change flavor of the juice (it is flavorless), and used at the very low percentage needed, it barely dilutes a premade juice.

Of course, nothing is exactly the same irritation as nictotine (and that's all throat hit is - simple irritation), but this comes closest to anything we've tried:

Here is an EASY way to replicate throat hit easily, cheaply, consistently & safely...no matter what base, flavor or level of nicotine is used!

Start with this (a bottle will last a lifetime): HEAT by Flavorwest

Thoroughly mix 5 drops of HEAT into 10ml of VG...and then use that blend at 2% (for starters). There's no taste at all; no need for filtering, no fuss - no muss...just plain ole TH (that you can easily adjust, control & duplicate).

What we call "throat hit" is nothing more than simple irritation. Capsaicin from peppers has been used for decades (in stronger amounts) to cause people to cough 'predictably' for medical testing, etc.

From here: Safety of capsaicin cough challenge testing

...RESULTS:

One hundred twenty-two published studies since 1984 described 4,833 subjects (4,374 adults, 459 children) undergoing capsaicin cough challenge, with no serious adverse events reported. Subjects included healthy volunteers as well as patients with asthma, COPD, pathologic cough, and other respiratory conditions. Minor complaints described in a small fraction of studies consisted mainly of transient throat irritation. Personal communication with the authors of > 90% of the studies confirmed an absence of any serious adverse events. Furthermore, these investigators have performed thousands of additional capsaicin challenge studies not reported in the literature, also without any associated serious adverse events.

CONCLUSIONS:

A review of the 20-year clinical experience has failed to uncover a single serious adverse event associated with capsaicin cough challenge testing in humans...

WOOHOO!

Ty, that is the type of thing i was looking for. I'm using a KPT2 atm, but will order a Kayfun clone in the near future. Thanks to all of you.

I can usually increase the throat hit of vg by adding 4-7% distilled water. But you will have to include that % in your initial DIY calculations. Otherwise you're just diluting your flavor.

This works really well. I dropped from 24mg nic to 12, and it wasn't quite throaty enough. Distilled water (I did 5%) brought the TH back.

Thanks! Never heard of that, but I'll have to try it.

Another option is adding a few drops of plain, cheap vodka. Just remember as mentioned before, you are diluting your flavor in the process. I DIY my own juices, and I use 100% (almost) VG, the only PG is from the flavors that may be PG based. The PG is what gives throat hit more than the VG, and a few of my friends really like the throat hit, so I add a drop or two of vodka to each of their 15ml bottles and it gives the throat hit back that the lack of PG took away.

Thanks for all the advice folks. Much appreciated.

I've decided to just vape the 12mg for now. At least until I decide whether I like the liquid enough to buy more of it. The throat hit might be less than satisfactory at 12mg but at least I can taste the flavor. If I decide to buy more I will buy it in whatever nicotine level I need to get this bottle and the new one as close to my preference as possible.
