So, to start off, I am NOT new to vaping, just wanting to get into mech mods and boxes.
My first question: in a ivogo cherry bomber clone, does it matter if i get button top batteries or flat top batteries?
My second question: ivogo cherry bomber clone or tugboat box clone?
Thanks in advance
I've had the cherry bomber it had, more issues than it was worth. i'm not too familiar with the tug boat box, but anything would be better than the cherry bomber.

Ivogo makes good clones. You need to get flat top batteries. Do you understand how the box works? CB may not be the best if you want something to carry around, its pretty big. The copper version is heavy too.

The tugboat box is not a true mech mod, just an unregulated box with wires. I would avoid that if you really want to learn mechs.

I recently picked up an Abaddon clone from angelcigs. It is pretty fantastic and is the smallest dual 18650 mod that I own. It is fully mechanical, positive switched, adjustable 510, has a large insulator at the top to keep the mod cool, and no current runs through the switch at all... the switch pin is actually insulated with delrin. I haven't seen much talk about this mod, even though its been around a couple months now. It is very good.

Thanks for the response! and yes, i want to start learning how mech mods work. Would a tube mod (Clone, I'm poor) work as a starter mech mod? Something like this : $36.19 Love Me N23 Styled RDA + Sir Lancelot Styled Mechanical Mod Kit - copper + stainless steel at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

Yes, a tube mod is a fine way to start. I would look at single tube mechs instead of modular, such as a pegasus, overdose, oros, cartel, fuhattan, paragon, etc. Its less parts to mess with and functions better.

I have a friend that has alot of mods that can help me with the assembly.

I am not saying that it is hard to do. Just that with the kind of RDA you are using, you should only be using 18650 batteries anyway. And so now you have multiple extra unnecessary parts. These extra threaded parts will introduce additional voltage drop, so your mod will not perform as well. You also might be trying to unscrew the bottom switch to remove the battery, and inadvertently unscrew some other part that didn't need to be there to begin with. When you are only using 18650 batteries anyway and don't plan on using a kick, you are sacrificing performance and ease of use for no reason.

ETA: you started this thread asking for a good starter mech, I am only giving the answer. These clones are so cheap anyway and they all will do what they are supposed to. Just some are better than others. If you don't really care about this, then just get whatever has an engraving that you think looks nice and when you decide to get something that works better at least you didn't spend a ton of money the first time.

I'm not familiar with the vendor, but this was my first mech. It's a solid piece of gear. Magnetic switch, telescopes to fit any 18xxx battery. Lots of threads to keep clean, but it's a great starter mech. There's a V2 and V3 out now that are pretty sweet too. The V1 comes in silver or brass, but the later versions are available in lots of colors.

You're Right. I would like to get a good quality one so that i don't need to buy a new one any time soon. With the abaddon box that you have, what ohms are you running at and what batteries are you using?

I usually am using pairs of Samsung 25R or Sony VTC5. The Revolt that I have on it right now is a build using 22g nichrome 80, 8 wraps around a 2mm screwdriver, dual coils. It measures .15 ohm. This may not be the best build if you are new at building RDAs, you did say in the OP that you are not new to vaping, though. So, if comfortable, try it. Here is a quick picture:

The dual batteries I mentioned can perform excellently with this build without issue (with 2 batteries in parallel, each battery takes half the load so you effectively double your CDR). You could also do similar with 22g kanthal using 6 wraps (instead of 8), again around 2mm.

avoid the cherry bomber of if you get one, make sure you understand how/whether it will autofire if you rest it lying down on a metal surface.

What charger do you use with the batteries? and do you know if the aluminum is better/worse than the copper? kinda on a budget.

I use an Efest LUC v4 to charge my batteries. It works great. I have heard that the XTAR VP series chargers are excellent also, but I haven't used them.

The copper is going to hit harder. I don't know much about the overall quality of the aluminum, since I don't own one. With angelcigs, like fasttech, the aluminum could be a completely different manufacturer, and the clone manufacturers are not listed. It could be great though, I just can't vouch for it.

ok, then could you recommend any cheap copper tube mods? The copper abaddon is a little out of my price range with the ultra nice batteries

They make copper Cartel and Nemesis clones, either would do, but I'd suggest the Nemesis first, has a lot of good aftermarket upgrades like copper contact pin, loaded springs, and magnets for the switch if you don't like springs, also replacement parts are easier to find for it, battery adjustment is just tightening of the bottom switch, and lock ring is a no brainer where the Cartel has no lock ring or mechanism due to its recessed switch assembly

my favorite tube mod clones are:
pegasus (vapetech)
overdose (vapetech)
oros (from voltage vapor)
cartel (fasttech SKU 1758709)
FM (A-Mod, fasttech SKU 1835301)
XXiX (this is hybrid mod, make sure your RDA has protruding 510)
fuhattan
paragon
Skyline M6 (KingTu, from rbavapor)
SMPL (A-Mod, this is another hybrid)

I am sure I am forgetting some other good ones.

I do have a SS nemesis clone too, I think its HCigar. I wouldn't put it on my recommended list. It was one of my first mods. The threading is kind of rough. It is modular and I have no need for the various different parts to be unscrewable. It doesn't hit anywhere near as hard as my copper tubes.
