Another vote for the Derringer from me. Never used a TOBH but I wouldnt ever hesitate to recommend the Derringer for flavor. Itll put out some decent vapor too if thats your thing. Ive run mine up to 30w and never had heat issues. The only time Ive had trouble with spitback was when I overfilled it and vaped it right away without waiting for the wick to soak up some juice. Im normally running mine with a .7-.8 ohm/2.5mm/26ga coil so my ADV is around 20w with a fresh battery in my Stingray X. For awhile it was replaced with a Samurai Bonsai clone I got, but the Bonsai's center pin likes to move all the time so as soon as my second Derringer gets here in the mail itll probably be retired so I can keep both my Stingrays in hybrid-mode.

It's titanium that has been torched with a torch :)
It can be polished off and redone :)
I'm assuming she meant Ti as in Titanium
What he said :)

Is that how you got the rainbow effect on it? Brb while I burn the house down.

Rainbow effects? Is it the colour tinge on the coils while you dry fire? Just a guess Because I see colour bands daily on my new coils.

Yup they were talking about kpr's drip tip but it's the same concept. Essentially when you heat up metal it anodizes and causes color changes.

Here's a link for a quick science lesson on it:

    You are doing it wrong.
I keep all three of mine at .20 ohms, dual coil, 26g kanthal.
Never hot, awesome flavor , zero leaks or spitback.

Keep your coils low and close to the air intake, don't over wick or over juice.
I rock mine on a dual 18650 fully mechanical cherry bomber.

    1.4 ohms?
No wonder it doesn't work right.

Can't be that wrong, I'm finally getting something I'm fairly happy with. Everything piece of experience says I wouldn't like yours, but maybe in whole I would. A big difference is I'm not going to use all that airflow (previous post you said you left out the control ring); I'd prefer shutting it down but even without I'm not going to pull the air through fast. Long drags and therefore heat buildup. I'm finding the build almost doesn't matter, big or small I just don't want more power. I'd like to fully understand this, but if this is wrong, I bet there's a few that would like to do it wrong then.

You don't understand resistance fully. I'm using regulated battery and could crank the power. I only gave the resistance because between that and the other info it becomes a complete description. The high resistance means the coil is long, this coil actually has more surface area than both of yours combined and theoretically could take more power. If yours is actually getting 70 watts, mine could go 100. I'm using 12. Think of it, if I cut the coil in half and stuck the other half on the other side, I'd have 2 .7's in series for a combination of .35. Exact same coil(s). Totally different result on a mech, not so much on regulated (within device limits).

P.S. one thing useful with the derringer is a little keychain flashlight, to get a peek at the fluid level without blinding yourself with a big flashlight. I'm getting better at just knowing, but sometimes just don't.

Did you just tell me I don't "understand resistance?"

It's primitive electronics. I understand perfectly.
I gave you an example of how the atomizer works as intended.

You Don't need to pull the AFC ring, but if you do, and build it properly it will Perform as intended. With no leaks.
I understand how to use my gear, which is why I don't have the problems you have.

I used to repair mods for three local vape shops. I understand how the derringer works and was trying to help you, but you obviously don't want any.

The derringer is an awesome atty if you build it correctly.
If not, you get mediocre performance.

You said "1.4 ohms? No wonder it doesn't work right." That's what I was responding to. I don't actually know if you understand resistance but you didn't explain in either post how that would be relevant. I presume you mean somehow that resistance means its a little wimpy thing. Actually it's kind of excessive for the power I'm running.

You gave an example of what you use, I've seen similar many times by now, and yet no one can explain why my experience/preference doesn't just differ, it differs a lot. I'd like help understanding all of this, I just keep failing to really see the problem, or at least what others tell me is the problem. Am becoming inspired to try a different build though.

I agree I'm probably not using the Derringer as intended, otherwise the airflow control would have been designed differentIy. However, it still seems like a good atty for those who want low power with good flavor and yet a substantial drip well. Maybe even more so than as a good high power atty but then it is pretty great.

Try quenching the torched drip tip in some motor oil, you should get some really cool rainbow patterns instead of just "smooth" color gradations. Be sure to wash it gently with soap and water before using it, of course.
