These devices have internally built safety features. They are made to perform in specific wattage and voltage ranges from the factory without fear of harm to the user. The best advice I can give you is use quality cells in the device. As far as builds, you should be able to build down to the specifications with no issue. It's always a good idea to be aware, but if you're asking questions, you're learning. Use common sense, take your time building, and use quality batteries. Stay safe.

UPDATE: I just did a bit of looking around online. I believe there may be an open recall for the IPV 3, however I didn't see that this includes the "LI" version. If you bought it locally, consider advising your shop of this and see what steps can be taken. Here is the link I found below, also some helpful tips for "Mod Safety." Good luck.

Hi, I have the IP, IPv2, IPV3, and the IPV4S. Read what the other poster had written about a "recall". It's not Really a recall but more of a common sense warning when using the IPV3 and it applies to ALL IP devices. it talks about battery safty and proper use. it's important safty measures to use with ANY high wattage MOD. That said, let's address your fear of "blowing up". Even though most of these devices are 50 to 150 watts, they ALL have safty measures BUILT INTO THEM that prevent that kind of thing with proper use. These mods are REGULATED, NOT MECHANICAL. a mechanical mod has NO safty measures and Will for example, run a short. A regulated will NOT. a computer chips built into them will NOT allow certain things to happen that could result in danger when used correctly. That said, I doubt very seriously you can blow up using a regulated Mod. That danger is usually seen in mechanical mods. For example, if a mechanical mod runs a short it can effect the batteries causing a chemical reaction and if the batteries are not removed soon enough it will cause the batteries to vent . at that point if venting long enough this chemical reaction can cause a explosion. That said I think as long as you use your device as directed you are perfectly safe from explosion. I personally LOVE the IP devices. I've NEVER had ANY problems with ANY of mine. hope this helps and best wishes.

The HE4 is a great battery but its a 20a battery. At full output the IPV3 LI can exceed that. Its always a good idea to have a little headroom with your batteries. If your going to take it to full output I would run 30a batteries. If you stay under 100 or so then the HE4 is fine. Remember that with all that safety the mod has no idea what battery you put in it.

First of all, that is a pretty advanced mod for a beginner. Secondly, its a regulated mod that is indeed pretty advanced so as long as you are not running so crappy batteries you are golden. I recommend Samsung 25R, Sony VTC 4, AND LG HE2 batteries
