Hello all!
I'm trying to get into rebuilding and it's been extremely frustrating so far. I have watched SO many videos and they either seem to advanced for me or don't seem to be in line with what I'm looking for. I've wasted a lot of money already. I'm looking to put an order in and want to get it right this time!
A little about me. I mostly use the mvp 2 with some time on smok SID. Usually both at 7-8 watts. I only have kanger protank 3's and aerotanks for clearos and have rebuilt them semi successfully. I say semi because I've only used cotton, and while the taste is definitely different I have to say I much prefer the flavor of the stock coils. I've only had the 2.0 ohms. My rebuilds have ranged from 1.8-2.2. I mostly go with 50/50 or slightly higher pg ratio juices in desert type flavors.
I recently got a smoktech octopus type rda. I hated it with the coil and wick it came with and so far have not been able to rebuild it into anything usable for more than a couple vapes.
The only supplies I have right now are organic boiled cotton, 32g kathal, the random drill bits and things I've found around the house to wrap them around, and a good old bic lighter that makes me want to have a real one every time I sit down and try to mess with something.
So I'm thinking tinkering may not be for me. What I'm looking for is something fairly easy to build that won't break the bank or drive me back to stinkies, and the most hassle free supplies needed to rebuild it. Gauge of kanthal, size of bit to wrap around, what wicking material, etc. It doesn't matter if it's a drip or tank style. Flavor is much more important to me than TH or big clouds. I understand all of this is HIGHLY subjective but would appreciate any and all suggestions that ya might have! Thanks!

I absolutely love the taifun RBA. You can use your choice of wicking material, I choose either 100% organic unbleached cotton or sterile cotton. She has by far the best flavor I've ever had! Beautiful dense vapor and easy to build. I have both kayfun and taifun and I will say the taifun provides a better flavor than the kayfun although both are good the taifun is the best IMHO. I usually build her with 28 gauge kanthal at 1.5 ohms. I get wonderful flavor with this build. If you decide to invest in the taifun I suggest watching a few build videos on her because wicking is very important with her. I usually double my wick in her slots and I've never had any problems with her.the taifun I have is the taifun Gt. I highly recommend it for a exceptional flavor and easy build. Hope this helps.

IMO 32g kanthal isn't much good on its own but twisted together its better try twisting 2 pieces together and make a micro coil from the twisted wire check youtube Rip Trippers for micro coil builds. Even a Macro coil if micro is to difficult for you. Try and shoot for around 1.2-1.5 ohms IMO that vapes much nicer for a good all around vape. A torch helps but isn't really needed the coil can be fired and adjusted on the mod

I sucked at building coils until I changed from 32 to 30 gauge A1 Kanthal. It is much easier to work with and for your target resistance is about the best gauge. If you use anything thicker it's going to be too slow to heat up, unless you keep it in the 1.2-1.5 range, IMO. Most of my coils are 5/64" diameter compressed. I use 28, 30 and every once in a while twisted 32.

Hey Becky84

It seems like you are in the same situation all of us were in at some point. There's way to many videos on YouTube to even begin wrapping everything together. I only follow one person on YouTube and he goes by RiP Trippers. He's very informative about all his reviews. He teaches you how to build coils and what those coils will be mainly used for as in vape density and flavor. His builds are simple and it's the only up close n person builds where I can actually see how he does everything.

If I were you I would focus on get a 1ohm to 1.5ohm build and see how that works. It seems like you have all available resources to build a good coil but have watched too many YouTube videos. You should try 28g A-1 Kanthal. 32g seems like it's not right for certain builds.

I think 30g A1 Kanthal is the sweet spot for wire. I started with 28, but it took too long to heat up and I just didn't enjoy wrapping bulky wire around small posts when rebuilding. I would just build a coil, mount it, fire it and disassemble and repeat until you get the hang of it. Repetition and practice make perfect. Diameter of your coils are just personal preference.
