A buddy of mine recently got me into RC cars in a big way. I've been buying used and partially assembled chassis and fixing them up, and having a blast doing it. Sadly, there aren't any tracks within about 90 min of me, so actually going out and racing is a bit tough. My "garage" so far:

  • HPI Savage 1/6 scale brushless conversion (waiting on a custom motor mount)
  • Ofna Ravager brushless rally conversion (waiting on new front diff, battery trays and a body)
  • Stampede brushless conversion with a bunch of bells and whistles
  • Evader EXB brushless with a bunch of upgrades (torn apart, waiting on tranny parts)
  • Tamiya TA04 with a Leopard 60A brushless kit
  • Tamiya M03L (partially completed, waiting on a brushless kit)

Anybody else into RC? What do you run?

candre, I also love r/c cars. I have lots of the mirco ones (matchbox size) as well as some 1/10 scale, x-mods, a mini-z and a d-nano. The mini-z and the d-nano (both from Kyosho) are Mitsubishi Lancer's. The x-mods and the micro r/c's are just toys to fool around with, but they are fun and you can run them anywhere. You can even get mini track kits on ebay for them. Pretty awesome I think. The 1/10 scale are the real deal though.

1) Tamiya TA05R
---Tons of blue aluminum hop up parts
---Toyota MR2 (rounded body style) from ABC Hobby
---Aftermarket Light Kit (head light, tail light, turn signals)
---Currently unfinished

2) Tamiya TT01 Type E
---Tons of red aluminum Yeah Racing hop up parts
---Mitsubishi Lancer body painted black to match my car
---Full Tamiya light kit with control modules
---Finished

3) Tamiya Scania R470 Tractor
---Full light kit with lights and sound
---Currently unfinished

Can you tell I like Tamiya? By the way, I'm in NJ too (even though my profile says Chulak) and that profile pic is really Apophis from the Stargate series.

The pics attached are from my TT01E and the Truck. Hope you like them.

I always loved RC.. I had a Clodbuster many moons ago and some of the smaller 1/18 stadium trucks. I been looking at getting back into it. I haven't actively done anything rc in several years.. Honestly I got to many hobbies.. I play guitar for a couple of hours a night, spend about an hour a day tending to my coral reef tank and work on models with my son.. I plan to phase out the models and get him into RC so I don't feel so guilty having another hobby taking up time that is already spread thin.. lol

Brushless is faster, cheaper, quieter, easier to set up, easier to maintain, and did I mention faster? Higher top speed, higher power-to-weight ratio, instantaneous acceleration, and full power at any RPM. No noise, no smoke, no grease, and no janky multi-speed trannys. No warming up, no tuning, just plug in a lipo and go. I think I'll stick with electric. :p

Apophis: Where in NJ are you? I've been looking for a good place to run my on-road cars. Nothing in hunterdon county, unfortunately.

I'll agree with most of that except the faster part. My 1/8 scale is blazing fast. The one thing that nitro beats the hell out of electric in is durability. Hit something at top speed with a 1/10 electric and it will probably explode into a million pieces. I uprooted a wooden mailbox post with mine and the only damage was a bent axle. Most of the parts that would usually be destroyed in a crash are unbreakable. Mine has a one speed tranny. Very simple set up. The smell of burning nitro is refreshing to me.

candre, I live in Matawan. The only place I know of that has a track in my area is American Hobbies. At least I think that's their name. It's been a long time since I was there. I would stop there on the way to/from Englishtown. I never ran anything there, I just watched. They had an indoor on road for 1/12 and smaller and an outdoor dirt for off-road.
