OK so I got my IGO-L today. Made plenty of coils I thought would be great but on the provari either got an error or a .9 reading. Now it will fire at .9 but only up to 3.3V and it's no better/probably worse than my regular dripping atty. Using 28 awg Kanthal and 2mm silica wick. I don't know if I had too many/too few wraps (5) or whats going on. Help please :)

Does anyone know of a chart or calculator or something that gives the relationship between wire gauge/numbers of wraps/coil diameter and the approximate resistance they will produce?

I found this calculator from Phil Busardo that seems pretty nice:

Some DIY coil supplies are arriving tomorrow and I can't wait to start making rba's

^URL doesn't work, at least for me...
I don't think anyone has made a chart, at least I don't know of one. After building coils for a while it become second nature as it has for me; now I can't give specific numbers, but when I build I know which wires and how many wraps to be efficient for a desired vape from building so many times.

8 wraps of 28awg gave me 1.3 ohms. This will work on your Provari. Adding more wraps will increase the ohms but it will also take longer to heat the coil. The inside of the coil dia is 80 thou....approximately 2.3mil........As Sthur said you would probably do better with 30awg

Hope this helps. :vapor:

Eh, hem...... put the Provari in the drawer and get a $50 mech and that .9 will work every time. You can use that provari you got for a really expensive ohm meter.

A quick chart showing the specs for different gauges of Kanthal. I use 32 gauge Kanthal with a micro coil (wrapped on a 1/16th inch drill bit) and cotton wicking. I like something around two ohms. With a provari (G)!

Kanthal A-1 Wire Specs: (Ohms Per Inch)

•28 AWG- 0.439 Ohms/in, 0.0508 Diameter (in.)

•30 AWG- 0.696 Ohms/in, 0.0100 Diameter (in.)

•32 AWG- 1.091 Ohms/in, 0.0080 Diameter (in.)

•33 AWG- 1.383 Ohms/in, 0.0071 Diameter (in.)

•34 AWG- 1.758 Ohms/in, 0.0063 Diameter (in.)
