I have a dead rabbit rda on my smok g priv baby mod and I get more flavor from my tfv12 baby prince tank. I bought it for the better flavor and am just disappointed so far. I have played around with both vw mode and Tc mode and just can't get the flavor. I have coil master fused Clapton coils with cotton bacon wick

Things to consider
  • Coil placement, closer to the airflow and air going under the coil is best
  • Get quality coils, Coil Master, Demon wire coils, etc. are made with Chinese crapwire
  • Fused Claptons IMO are best but with no fatter than 36g wrapping wire, my go too is 38g - 40g. Most Chinese mass produced Clapton's use 30g-32g, garbage.

Hi and welcome,
Which CM clapton coils are you using? Resistance per coil?
Two coils will halve the final resistance. for example: if using two .45Ω coils, final resistance will be .22Ω-.23Ω
If the coils are Kanthal, they will not function properly in TC mode.

Is this your first try at rebuildables?
Mounting a coil(s) is dead simple, wicking is the hard part.
Did you fire the unwicked coils to ensure they are heating evenly and without hot spots?

Stolen photo: Example of coil height and placement.

Yes it is my first rda and I've played around with it first with coil art wires and now these also with multiple different juices and just get better flavor from my tank but, yes I worked out all the hot spots without wick

Those are Kanthal coils and will not work in TC mode.
Each coil has a resistance of .45Ω.

Your dual coil build should read at approx .22Ω-23Ω. Is that the reading you are getting?
How many watts are you feeding the build?
What is the nicotine level and PG/VG ratio of the juice you are using?
How tight is the cotton in the coils? IMO, it should be just a bit snug, but not too snug.
I like to test builds with the cap off. Juice the coils and blow on them as you fire. Estimate a normal draw length and confirm that the coils stay fed and the wick is not drying for the duration of the fire event.
I also do this to remove any odd flavour (socks) that may come from the cotton I'm using.

Cheers

I liked to use it with beard vape co no 00 which is a coffee tobacco I want find a pg/vg but it a 3 mg nicotine and it was way better kn the coil art coils. Thanks to everyone for the help but I'm going to buy some better quality ss coils bc the flavor from the kanthals is just terrible

another factor could be, what coils are you using in the tank, if it's a mesh coil then it probably is a better flavor
I have a wotofo profile rda that uses mesh coils (first time using mesh) and omg the flavor is phenomenal

other than that sorry not much help, finding the right coil and wicking material is always fun
I don't mind kanthal but then that was all I ever had used...I've been using ss and honestly haven't noticed a difference other than the ss takes longer to heat up so I have to bump up my watts to get it to to warm up faster
then again I just use standard coils/micro coils

It's not a mesh coil it's a q4 quad coil but these kanthal coils I have in the rda just have a funky taste at 55 and worse the higher I go with less flavor from my juice

I was considering trying a mesh profile but I'm just afraid that I'll get it and be disappointed like the rda

have you tried different types of cotton....usually a funky flavor is more the wick then the coil itself, usually not always
that cotton bacon wick i've heard mixed reviews on flavor from it...then again any cotton can give a funky flavor sometimes depending on what it's been in contact with

No I haven't but I'll keep that in mind when picking up new coils

Your biggest problem you're having is the Dead Rabbit is a piece of garbage. Get a good RDA and you'll have good flavor and better than an RTA. You can get $10 clones that are better than the Dead Rabbit. Which Rda would you ask? Just about any/every RDA will be better than the Dead Rabbit.

To be frank, the Dead Rabbit is not very good. The Drop is better within that price range. Those coils also look pretty hefty for a single battery mod. It seems like it would not produce that much vapor. In part, I think the lack of flavor might partially be do to the large coils. I found "fancy coils" pointless. Some disagree, but I really have not noticed any major difference in between simple coils and fancy coils.

To maximize surface area, minimize ramp up time, and maximize efficiency, I recommend flat ribbon wire. It's a bit of a pain to work with because it's springy, but it's doable.

If I get lazy, I do install performance coils. which are claptons. They contain 2-4 cores of 28g or above. Wrapped in 40 gauge. Anything above a 38g for a clapton wrap is counter productive.

Notice the flat ribbon wire covers more surface area but is a lot thinner(less mass). Thus, it has much better performance.

actually had to look that one up, yes air dry...let dry overnight, another video they said to spread them out and let them sit on a cookie sheet overnight to dry better

I never understood boiling cotton. It never made sense to me. You boil it, all the impurities and contaminants are in the water. You pull them out, and they still have that water in them. They dry with the contaminants and impurities. In the video he did rinse them, that does help somewhat.

I agree. Personally my favorite coils are nichrome80 .9mm x .3mm rectangle wire core clapton with 36g ss316L wire. The flavor is great with big clouds. The best thing I've found is I can use lower wattage than with other coils.
I have an Aleader single 18650 regulated 80 watt squonk mod with a TM24 PRO on it. It works great at 65-70 watts.

I heard that Ni80 has a funky taste. How do you like it? But yes, these type of builds are a lot more efficienct. I am vaping dual coils at 40 watts and it's vaping great. I also use a single coil RDA at about 25-30 watts and the vape is also great.
