Hey guys, just a quick question. I rebuilt a kanger protank 2 head last weekend, and I have had some issues getting the wicking down. I use cotton, and I have a piece going through the coil and then 2 more on top because I was getting a lot of flooding with just the one piece through the coil. I was wondering how you guys wick yours and what material you use for a wick, and how to fix the flooding issue with only one piece of cotton. The flavor is rather muted with the three pieces.

I wrap a coil on a 5/64" drill bit using 30g kanthal been experimenting with between 6-9 wraps, and wick it using cotton balls just roll a piece and insert into the coil, haven't had any flooding issues. Only wick I put is the one inside the coil.

Also it will take some practice rebuilding the heads and getting the amount of cotton just right, take a photo of how much cotton you're using on the build so you can reference that photo to adjust cotton amounts between builds.

Tried just the one wick, still was having flooding problems. I'm thinking I didn't use enough cotton when I went through the coil and that may be the problem. A lot of people praise the rebuilt kanger heads, and although I love being able to vape at 15 watts on a 1.5 ohm coil with no burnt taste, the flavor is too muted with the three wicks I'm currently using.

What PG/VG juice are you using? I'm using a 70/30 blend, though it seems on the thinner side, and I'd venture out to say it's about an 80/20 blend.

I think it is all trial & error and depends on what type of liquid you use and whether you draw heavy or light.
1. I pulled off just a little wisp and rolled it into a strand.
2. Twisted one end until it was very pointy and inserted through coil until the other end just started to snag/drag.
3. Add a couple drops of liquid and watch the cotton puff up to make sure it's all plumped up and touching the coil.
4. Clipped each side of the wick with sharp, tiny little sewing scissors as close to the head as possible.
5. Added just a tiny little bit of fluff to the top of the coil as a flavor/anti-gurgle wick & another couple drops of liquid.
6. Reassemble & remember to put the silicone grommet back on. I forget this some times and it will work but the coil will flood without it. A chain vaper might get by without the grommet if they empty the tank before setting it down. The second after you stop puffing on it though, it will start leaking.

I know I used too much cotton on my first attempts. It would work at first because I had pre-primed the wicks but eventually they would swell up too much & choke themselves off. The big puffy cotton builds I saw on the drippers & RBA's made me think I needed more cotton than is reasonable for tiny little Protanks/EVODs.

Your wick is not thick enough and is too loose in coil. You need to get a thicker wick, twist it to make it skinny enough to pull/push through coil and then untwist to fluff it back up. No flavor wicking needed if this is done correctly.

On protank builds allot of times the problem is the coil is too high. I used 5/64 to 1/16 bit to coil 32 or 30 kanthal. I would then use a needle bottle tip through the coil as a guide as the insulator and pin caught coil leg in the bottom. Once caught a slight tugg to snug them up. Remove needle tip and pull through the cotton.

I build my coils with a 5/64 drill bit..10 wraps (28g) get a 1.5 ohm coil.. Then I thread a full piece of peaches and cream thru the coil and 1 individual strand for a flavor wick.. Works great ,my juice is 70pg 30vg..I like the yarn cuss its easy to duplicate ...I had a hard time with the cotton balls duplicating the wicks

great thread, i've been reading and watching videos and will soon try to rebuild these kanger heads myself. haven't had much trouble with the protank but bought 6 evod tanks and they all tasted burned real fast. i am understanding that they don't like thicker juices but some of what i have are 20/80 and i just can't get much thinner than that. when i give it a go i will consider the recommendations here.
