And if they are medicinal, surely no-one can ban us from using them.

They costs of certification will close down most of the current suppliers, whats left will be expensive and crap.

... companies will control that market, so they will be happy. People will carry on trying and failing with existing NRT products so Pharma companies will be happy.

I'm not impressed. They may be taking their lead from the EU. The EU wants it to be a pharma product. So it will be expensive and crap. Can you say "Black Market"!!!!!

yes you can say black market, and that is the place most people will head for.
This country is a effing joke.

Awww c'mon.
The legislation is based on protecting the public...."we're not sure if it's harmful".."we'll give you 3 yrs and see if it's harmful"

Well, electric ciggies have been freely available in the uk for 4 years or so.

My take on the health grounds is; if it's so bad, state a case. No cause for a case. No fatalities shown or stated. They would have given empirical evidence, if it existed. They didn't.

BMA is sub divided on the matter. Best statement runs along the lines of "well it's better than smoking"

Rough maths time (what the government's ....tting their selves about):
VERY rough maths:
1,000,000 people toofing on e-cigs in the UK (1.3M according to latest release)
Say they smoked 10/day (be lenient) so 10,000,000 fags/day
20 fags per pack, so 500,000 packs of ciggies a day
Now a cheap pack of tabs, £6
That's £3,000,000 a day on ciggy sales. 80% or so on tax call it £2.4M that the gov is missing out on
Won't talk about NHS looking after smokers or pensions lost out by smokers dying younger

UK has gone to Hell in a Handcart... As has been said all this is a "Stealth Tax" ("Oh ....e someones invented something that we cannot say is "Harmful to Health") .. Eeeerrrr I know we'll say it IS harmful & then we can sell it as a "Medicine" & TAX it like theres no tomorrow !!!!!!!!

Cameron needs my foot up his .... & PRONTO!!!!

Chill out poeple!! Vaping isn't going anywhere! And if the uk is so sh.., go to America and buy a gun.

Not quite sure how to respond to this comment, i see the humour and i do not want to start an argument but we cannot "chill out", otherwise vaping will go somewhere, somewhere we do not want it to go. Go sign all the available petitions, i would hate to sit back and think "i should have done something" if we lose at least we tried.

I see a government collecting taxes and preaching for people to give up the evil tobacco, they give patches and gum etc to help give it up, knowing full well that there is always a new generation of smokers behind the ones that give up, therefore the tax just keeps rolling in.

What confuses them is the fact that to a greater extent ecigs are doing what patches etc' do not. and taxes will start to fall, so we get the knee jerk reaction of "what can we do to replace lost taxes". We are now in that situation and await the outcome.
