hey,

I'm a total beginner in rebuilding my own coils. So here comes some noob questions :oops:;

At my store they only had the 33 gauge ( 0.18mm) kanthal in stock so i ordered these with 2mm silica wick.
I want to rebuild the kanger protank 2 coil. I'd like to vape arround 2.2-2.4 ohms on my mpv2.

Is it correct that 5 turns will give a coil arround 2.5 ohms?
And if i do 4 turns, will the ohms be lower or higher then? Because a coil arround 2.2 would be perfect. But i don't know with how much wraps i can achieve it.

So how i understand with 2mm of silica, i can use 1 wick to rebuild the coil and than add 1 wick as a flavor wick. I hope 2mm isn't too thick as a flavor wick.

Greetings and thanks in advance!!

Lets start with what I know - 2mm silica is actually the OEM design. you coil with the 2mm, then you place 2/3 of mm on top of the coil (flavor wick: when you "unstrand" another piece, you get 6 small strands; use two of them). Works GREAT for me. tomorrow I am getting 3mm an I will see if its better without the flavor wick.
About he 33 gauge - its slightly thinner than the standard 32, so I assume it will produce more resistance. so 6 wraps around 2mm silica gets you 1.8 ohm with 32, I would guess that 6-7 with 33 gauge will get you over 2ohms.

PT2 coil will have quite long leads/tails - 5 mm even bigger, so I would try 5, may be 6 wraps with your kanthal gauge and to have more than 2 ohms

lower number of wraps/turns - will lead for a shorter total length and therefore lower resistance.

I've used also: 2 mm silica for the coil and two pieces 1mm each for the flavor , just on top of the coil.

You cannot go over 3mm total.

yess!!! my goodies arrived in the mail so i could try and you are both right! 6 wraps gives me 2.2 ohms! Perfect!!
I struggled to get beautifull flavorwicks with the 2 mm silica, so i'm going to order 1mm for my next remake.
But i managed to do it, it works wonderfully!

Thanks so much for the replies, i'm happy that i know how to make it now

Update:
As I promised in several threads - I got the 3mm silica wicks, prepped and boiled cotton, and my 2mm silica wicks.
My premise was that putting a 2mm wick and 2/3 of mm as flavor will wick much better (coil is covered better, more surface, and more volume on the top).
So I prepped two heads with the 3mm, two 2mm and cotton flavor wick and compared it to the 2mm wick with 2/3 mm flavor.
I the 2mm with the top wick produces way more vapor and can go on higher wattage than a 3mm and than a 2mm with cotton top. so wickingwise - you got the best!
