I decided to take a picture of my rebuild of the vivi nova with wick and mesh.
the idea is to protect the wick from getting too burnt up from the kanthal wire.
anyways. remember the mesh has to be narrow enough so it doesn't touch the metal.
i did not heat treat the mesh, i just rolled it on.

i hope this helps someone out there.
I found that after about 30 puffs the taste becomes very very clean and no burnt taste, even when chain vaping.
i use 100% VG , zero nicotine.
if you find that you are flooding, i have found that means that you may need more than two wicks to help plug uf the gap. i was lazy and did not want to take apart so all I did was place a wick on top. kinda like how the atomizer comes with an extra one on top. I think that extra wick allows them to help seal the gap and also make the main wick not to get too big, that slit on the side doesn't allow for much room for a a large wick. in the future i might just take a dremel to these slits and make it larger so i can make a U shaped mesh wick, that way i dont have to use any wick material at all. Only problem i need to figure out how to make sure the mesh wick doesnt touch the metal.
