I am kinda overwhelmed by the amount of different things out there. So… here are a few questions I have.

What gauge wire do I need?

What kind of wick?

Do I need a meter to check the ohms or will my svd be ok to check them?

And… I found the ehpro kayfun lite plus v2 on 101vapes for 39.99 is this a good price and is this a good clone?

I know everyone has their favorite setup but I am just wanting to see what the general consensus is. Any help is appreciated by this noob. Lol.

Wire wise, I would go with 28 or 30, but it really depends on what resistance you're really shooting for. I have a spool of 32 and 28, the 32 is so flimsy, I only use it twisted.

Organic cotton balls work really well. Boiling them and drying sterilizes them and helps get rid of the raw cotton taste.

Also, grab a micro screwdriver set, they're great for wrapping on. You can get a set at dollar tree for a buck.

With the ohm meter, if your device can check resistance you should be fine with that. But it wouldn't hurt to get a multi meter anyway. You can get one from harbor freight for roughly five bucks.

First, the Ehpro KFL+ clone is top notch. I own 2 and an original Svoe and they are almost identical in build quality. You cannot tell a difference vaping them.

Next, 28 and 30ga kanthal, perhaps 32 for twisted builds. Kanthal is cheap, about 7 bucks for 100'.

I use organic cotton to wick. I do not boil it, the cotton taste, which is almost not noticeable, goes away very quickly; certainly faster than boiling and drying. Boiling also can introduce bacteria and mold due to the residual moisture. Bottom line, it's more of a PITA than it's worth, IMHO.

Something to wrap your coils on. Drill bits work, 1/16", 5/64", and 3/32" is a good place to start. I use 16ga needles, which are just a hair smaller than 1/16".

A butane torch. It's nice to have, and not very $$$. A butane torch type lighter, like a Ronson will work as well. A bic lighter will do in a pinch.

A good set of tweezers. Pointed and flat tip, for compressing coils, and pulling wick through coils.

A good set of nail clippers and scissors. Nail clippers work very well for trimming kanthal precisely, scissors are handy for dealing with wick.

An ohm meter, but get one of the ones with a screw in 510 connector. Trying to use a VOM on coils is a PITA. Your SVD will do that job just fine BTW.

A good set of precision screwdrivers. The keychain thingy that you get with many clones is garbage. The sets you buy at the dollar store are garbage. A decent set is <$10, and useful for many other things.

A set of reading glasses. They make life so much easier.

Hope this all helps, and good luck!

Lots of time on You Tube! :)

Don't get the Ehpro or Tobeco.... HCIGAR Kayfun 3.1 Plus (not the light but the one thats a little taller). I have had the others and the hcigar is flaweless, I have three of them, no leaking, easy to build, top filling a breeze, much better airflow than the others, adjustable airflow.

Coil build is simple mini screw driver set (kobalt from lowes). There are three sizes diameters of screw drivers in the set I use the middle one that states 2.4mm. Use 28 Gage Kanthal Wire. Do 8 - 9 Wraps and this will get you 1.5 - 1.6 ohms. Mount it on your kayfun deck, run a cotton wick through the coil onto the deck properly and your setup. Vape will be nice and warm, dense, but will not overheat everything.

Get some Vapor Hut Cherry Oak, Van Applewood, Vanhazen, and Wookie Cookie... Bam

Good luck!

It's not so bad, dont over think it too much.

I use 28g wire almost exclusively. I find it much easier to work with b/c it doesn't break or pop coils as easily when working out hot spots.

28g kanthal, tweezers, torch, some small drill bits or precision screwdrivers are good to wrap coils around, nail clippers or scissors, organic cotton balls (some boil, some don't....I don't! I only notice a slight flowery taste when I put new cotton in.... Only for the first few drags but its not that bad, still tastes better than silica to me so its not worth the trouble to boil IMO)it lasts forever too.... I bought just plain walgreens brand organic cotton balls from the cosmetic section, only a couple bucks for 100 cotton balls and I've been rebuilding since Febuary and haven't even made a dent in the bag! And an ohms meter.... An atomizer seat to hold what your working on helps too! But that's the basics pretty much!

As far as the kayfuns go I have 3 clones... 2 are lite plus and the other is the 3.1 I prefer the lite plus 10 to 1 over the 3.1
I have more problems with it leaking than the light plus ones. And hate that I can't change drip tip on it. It leaks 2 of the 3 holes on the front, filling it is more of a pain because the fill port hole is set in deeper. If I use a syringe it doesn't get the proper air flow so juice either runs out the drip tip while filling, vapor locks, or gurgles back out the fill hole. It's just a PITA compared to the kayfun lite plus's that I have. Not to mention the bottom section where the overflow collection is.... I can't tell you how many times I've been out somewhere, went to unscrew the tank from the mod and end up with juice all over me because the 510 connection stayed on the mod. I'm not sure what brand they are.... They're the blue and white box.... But I like lite plus much better, its not as long as the 3.1 either. lol other than that the vape is great!

I concur with everything above. Youtube is your friend. Watch, watch, and watch some more.

I use organic cotton for my wick and I don't boil it. I get my cotton from CVS. Cotton wick will need to be replaced much more frequently than a silica wick, but the taste that you get from well wicking cotton is well worth it. The key is to have just enough that there is the ever so slightest resistance when pulling it through. Too much and you choke the wick, to little and you don't make good contact with the coil which results in nastiness.

I thought I would get by without an ohm meter by just using my Sigelei V3, then I bought a proper ohm meter with a 510 connection. Well worth it, as it provides a stable platform to build your coils.

I have a few slightly different suggestions to add or replace in the list:

  1. Flush cutters - designed for cutting wire. Better than nail clippers.
  2. Koh Gen Do cotton1 - instant flavor (no break in period), fibers are aligned, super easy to cut and feed through coils.
  3. Perhaps a rebuildable dripping atomizer (RDA). Most are very easy to build and great for quick flavor changes or tasting. You can get one of the IGO drippers for less than $20 just to see if you like it.
  4. Pin vise with multiple drill bits2 - larger handle makes it much easier to use tension while wrapping coils. And it can be used to bore out air holes on RDAs - at least on the less expensive plated brass RDAs

1KGD is pricey compared to drug store cotton, but if when you decide you like cotton, you'll really like KGD.
2An even better alternative: Artistic Wire Coiling Gizmo®. Also available in many hobby/craft stores.
