I'm relatively new the the whole concept of vaping. I've decided that once I start to burn through my 5 pack of 2.0 ohm coils I will rebuild. I'm curious as to what people have used to rebuild. I was thinking of trying some 30 gauge kanthal wire with organic cotton yarn. This seems to be the preferred choice by many as I've read that the cotton provides a better taste. I'd be looking for around 1.6-2.0 ohm resistance, so how many wraps would that be around a 1/16" drill bit? Is it preferred to try and build a dual coil or just do a single coil? Also, is it roughly the same to rebuild the protank 2 coils as it is to rebuild the 3/aerotank? I've watched a video on how to do the protank 3/aerotank coils and it does seem relatively easy. If anybody can provide any information or feedback/suggestions please help a newbie out! :D

Thanks for the link. Will browse through all the posts and find what I need to know!

Also, some video help...

Nano Micro Coil build for Kanger Protank 2 - YouTube

I meant this one, but watch both...

Mini Protank Micro Coil Rebuild

Of course, check your resistance before using... this was my first attempt...

That would have been bad to use.

I rebuild my AeroTank coils. In fact, I rebuild them myself first, before I even use them. Yeah, I think they're that much better!

I use a 1/16" bit and 8 wraps (counting loops on the top of the coil) of 30 gauge kanthal. I consistently get 1.8 ohms.

I wick with some organic cotton, torn off a cotton ball. Been meaning to try yarn... Maybe when I kill my bag of cotton balls in 5-10 years...

Unlike the standard ProTank, the side ports on the AeroTank coil housings are pretty tall. I get gurling/leaking if I don't use a small piece of cotton on top as a "flavor wick" to plug up the extra space. This is not needed with the regular ProTank coil rebuilds. That's the only difference I've noticed.

Appreciate the information! I've ordered a protank 2 to come as well so I could try out both the dual coil and the single coil heads. I also have another aerotank base to use with the protank 2. So knowing the difference in rebuilding both will make it that much easier... So a bag or organic cotton balls will last you damn near forever?

Yeah, you only need a little wisp of cotton for a wick. There's more wasted when I trim it, than is actually used in the coil itself.

Cotton will swell as it absorbs e-liquid. This produces a kinda seal, which prevents the liquid from running into the center air tube.

I'd estimate somewhere around 30 AeroTank coils can be rewicked from a single cotton ball. For ProTank coils, that number would be doubled, since no flavor wick is needed.

Pretty cool, eh?
