Got my head all ready to go. Right now its all disassembled. I just dont know how much kanthal wire I need to use. I have 32 GA wire,
anyone know how many wraps that would be? And what should I use to wrap the kanthal around? Also I have an ohm meter but Im not sure what ballpark the reader should be at when im done. Help plz? :)

It all depends on what you want the coil to turn out to be?

Do you want a 2.8ohm or 1.8ohm or 3ohm so you can pump 5v thru it?

What Ohm's do you like to vape?

What device do you vape on?

All of that will lead you to what ohm you want to make, then you just have to use either lower gauge wire 27-28 for a lower ohm or higher for higher Ohm's. Then you have to pick what size wrapping device to use, a 1/16 or 5/64 drill bit or 20g-18g needles, those are what I use most the time.

Its all trial and error, the first few times you may have to re-wrap your coil multiple times to get the right ohms you want, thats a normal process everyone goes through. When all else fails go to Youtube and watch some rebuild videos on protanks, they are all the same but for the protank 3 duel coil. Just follow a video that has about the Ohms that you want, use the same wire and size wrap device and you should hit the mark.

Also buy yourself a good roll of Kanthal, they sell 100ft for like $7 bucks online, it will last you forever, then you dont have to worry about cutting too much or wasting any. When you buy from your local shop $5 per 3ft, you get ripped off for sure.

Good luck, hope something I wrote helps you, keep vaping!

Read and answer wakeup's post and I will plug your numbers into the vapers toolbox app and it will spit out the exact amount of turns you need.

Here's an example however.

If you are winding around a 1/16 drill bit.

32G Kanthal

1.8ohm target

wire length is 1-9/16"
4/3 wrap

assuming the lead ends are .25"

My Kanger 2.5's are usually about a 6 wrap. So that makes sense.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Sidebar:

I hate 32G kanthal. It's too thin, harder to work with and goes nuclear instantly. Spaced wraps on silica - fine. But it directly correlates to durability. And the higher temps lead to a much quicker fouling accumulation as it singes juice the second your on the button too long.

I wrap tight little micro's on the same diameter bit (1/16") in 28G Kanthal and run cotton. The slower more even heat, that is concentrated allows me to run a much more vulnerable wick. (cotton) And it still lasts longer than the off shelf kangers. (And that is even at 1-1.2ohm hitting them with a good bit of voltage)

I no longer get any of the chalky throat symptoms from burnt juice on the silica. And when the wick is shot - I just pull it and rewick. 28G being more durable, you can give it a quick pulse, rinse it off. And keep it going. I have had Kanger's literally snap a strand. I avoid thinner kanthal for this reason now.

Well thanks everyone but looks like im screwed. Took my ohm reader out the box and plugged in my batteries and the thing doesnt even turn on. Spend 20$ on plastic. yay

What smoking device do you have, lot of the more advance ones have built in ohm reader...
just word of caution...if you do plan to do more rebuilding,....get a better ohm reader or better e-cig mod that has short protection etc...one bad twist to misaligned negative/positive wiring can do some damage to your basic e-cig.

Yeah..they don't have protection....unless somebody can correct me. Instead of ohm reader..maybe invest in Itaste vv/vw V3 or MVP 2.0 (big jump in price).....that way you're future proof etc..

But if you don't feel comfortable with that, I would first contact the seller of that ohm reader to see if they can help you out..maybe you inserted bad batteries or it can happen, it was a lemon...

For me, I don't feel comfortable telling beginners to rebuild coils, unless they can make sure after a decent twist of their rebuild coil/protank on a ohm reader or APV that the resistance is read correctly and acceptable for their device. I'm still a noob myself.

I bought cheapie off E-bay for 15.99 shipped..works great...

welp the coil burnt through all the cotton lol

Maybe you should give details instead of people asking questions tomorrow then getting the answers the next day, then asking the following day, then answers the next....................

miniprotank, and ego-t.
PG/VG ratio ?

Oh;; when are putting the coil head back together, before putting the top metal spire back on, drop some eliquid on the wick coil area so it is wet if you intend to try vaping it - which you do because you're doing it for the first time and you're anticipating;

because cotton Burns, so you want the cotton to be WET when you power the coil.

If you are using a thick high VG liquid, the wicking will be slow and you will more likely get burning; 50/50 should be fine, or higher on the PG will wick better.

If you are using ego-t, I guess you can't lower the voltage, so don't hold the fire button on for too long.
