So just ordered some more Kanthal wire and wick online but here is the question i pose......

Is there any local shops that sell this kind of material like walmart or home depot or something......I hate to have to order something so cheap online if I can get it elsewhere at a store in my town. What else is this wire and wick normally used for before rebuilding attomizers become the thing?

Thanks

No wire that I can find other than the b&m's in my town but u can use 100% unbleached cotton yarn from your local hobby store and tempco has 100 foot spools of wire for like 6 to 10$ so that's a few years the cotton u have to keep wet or it will burn ! Hope that helps any yarn is like 2$ for 100 yards so somthing

any advantages to cotton......with it having to be wet or it will burn will be a con to me but what are the pros of it.....there is a big hobby store near me so i can check into that......

Cotton swells and holds a ton of juice.
Cheap; a bag of cotton balls could last you for the rest of your life.
Cotton wicks very efficiently. Those running micro coils use cotton almost exclusively as cotton is the only medium that can really keep up with the coil.
Many say that cotton simply tastes purer than silica. I've had two identical recoiled drippers with cotton and silica wicks side by side, same juice, and I did enjoy the flavor more with a cotton wick.

Yeah I had some cotton ball wicks in a couple RDAs of mine that lasted well into 3 weeks. The trick with cotton to get the proper amount through the coil. Since cotton expands like a sponge, and not immediately(takes time to fully saturate), its easy to choke the wick out. If they get choked out, the cotton will burn through quickly. However, its easy and cheap to pull it out and put another in. Cotton balls or Q-tips work well. Your rolled/compressed cotton should be just small enough to slide through the coil easily.
Good luck finding someone with wire locally.

how often would you have to switch out the cotton though.....im getting 2-3 refills on the silica.....can i expect the same off cotton?

Not sure how you're only getting 2-3 refills with silica as you can dry burn or torch silica and its basically good as new. But yes, you'll likely be changing out the cotton more often. I dont see why a cotton wick in an RDA shouldn't last at least a week, even swapping flavors...again, as long as you're not using too much cotton.

thanks im gonna look in the cotton thing......still need to find someone that sells wire around here

Try and electrical supply company. Even though I am the middle of nowhere there is a local electrical supply in town that actually has some of the kanthal sizes.

Though honestly TEMCO on ebay its under $5 for 100 ft with free shipping sent priority mail. I know you don't want to order but at this price I can wait a couple days and save %50 cost + gas over locally.
