Hi all

Recently tried my hand at rebuilding the kanger occ coils for my subtank mini, I've done about five now and keep running in to the same problem:

The coils continue to hiss for about 2 seconds after I release the fire button and I get a burnt taste

6 spaced wraps 26 gauge kanthal, 3mm ID (approx 1 ohm), wicked with KGD cotton (just enough for slight resistance when pulling through coil)

Any ideas?

Don't ask me, Chris.

I gave up on them months ago and just got the RBA (mini) instead.

Most of mine (same as yours by the sounds of it) failed. I tried 2.5mm and 3.0mm diameter. 5 different types of Kanthal, 3 types of cotton wool and rayon.

I just ordered a lorry load of packs from Fasttech (for the Nanos), I can afford 10p a day.

So, I can do a Kayfun or Orchid or quad coil dripper, but these... no chance.

Think I'll have to try out the RBA and see how I get on with that, thought rebuilding the stock coils looked easier but it seems that I was wrong

I'm sure you'll find the rba deck a lot better to buildon, plus you can play around with twisted wires and even claptons. There is a bit of a knack to wicking it though but not to impossible.

I had the exact same issues trying to rebuild these. I tried more cotton, less cotton, poking the ends of the wick with a needle.... Nothing worked.

However when a made one from nickel for my dna40 it worked like a charm. So unless you have a temp control device I would just say buy the standard coil heads. That's what I ended up doing.

I hope someone comes along with a remedy for us

Update for anyone interested-

So I gave up on rebuilding the stock occ coils and gave the RBA a try, I used rip trippers video as a guide for my first attempt and it worked very well indeed, IMO as good if not better than the stock coils. Built a second in my other subtank and results were just as good.

It seems a lot of people struggle with wicking the RBA but by keeping the juice channels clear and not packing (compressing) the cotton I have had no issues at all, and it's so much easier than trying to rebuild a stock coil

Dont know how to post a link on here but search on YouTube for 'subtank mini RBA' and you can find rip trippers guide easily. If you use higher vg juice (70+) he has a video about the pancake method which should help ( I use 50:50 so the standard wicking method is fine for me)

Hope somebody finds this helpful
