Reccomendations for a student and his brother

Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum, and new to the idea of e-cigs in general, but it's something I'd really like to look into. My brother and I have both smoked since our respective 18th birthdays (I'm now 19 and he 21). We both started heavily smoking when we went off to college at ASU, where we are both currently students. I donno if anyone else here has ever attended that campus, but if you have you will know what I mean when I say nearly everyone there smokes - it's difficult not to pick up the habit. But now we're both interested in looking into switching over to e-cigs for several reasons. The greatest of which is the ability to "smoke" without enhaling harmful toxins. Neither of us is particularly "addicted" to the nicotine of smoking - we are both capable of quitting cold turkey for weeks on end. We have both identified, however, the main reason we continue to smoke - it's simply become something to do when we're bored at school or at a party. I can't speak for him specifically, but I know personally one of the most attractive qualities of e-cigs is the ability to purchase cartridges that contain 0% nicotine, and that is likely what I will end up doing once I have purchased my e-cig. Additionally, as broke college students we can't argue with the monetary incentive to switch over.

Now that I've said all that, I'll get to the original point of this thread; we'd like to hear some suggestions as to what model e-cig would be most effective for our situation. There are a few specific criteria that we're looking for, and they are as follows;

1. The model we purchase MUST be as close in physical appearance to a real (I guess the term on this site is "analog") cig as possible. We are not interested in anything bulky or cumbersome or anything that doesn't appear to be an analog cig.

2. Neither of us is particularly concerned with the need for the e-cig to have a taste similar to real cigs, but we are in agreement that we do not want to taste like we're smoking chemicals. Just something smooth, with a bit of a flavor to it so we know it's there, but nothing overwhelming.

3. We will be mostly using the e-cigs to take to parties or hang out with friends, so they don't need to have a huge battery life - a few hours per charge should suffice.

4. Neither of us is looking to spend more than about $100 on a basic kit, but if provided with enough evidence that it would be worth stretching this figure a bit we are both open to the possibility.

Based on the above criteria, what all would you suggest? Please keep in mind I'm about one day of research into this new tech, so please keep terminology/abbreviations simple for now - I will catch on quickly though. Also, a link to a website/thread on this site with more info on the model or brand you suggest would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance!

I'm recommending a joye 510 kit with pcc (just pick white batteries with red/orange LED, automatic). And for simplicity & consistency, buy some Boge cartomizers (standard resistance). This one sells for under $30: 510 cartomizer kit
With that package, what you need is a nice bottle of e-juice and you are set to go.

Joye 510 or Bloog Maxx fusion and get a kit with a pcc charger. I have a 510 and I like it but I hear great things about the bloog as well.

As for non chemical taste that applys more to the liquid or prefilled carts/cartos you buy. I don't do prefilled so I can't help you with those. If you choose to refill the two places I've tried that had no chemical or perfumey taste or smell right when I got the juice were Vermillion River and Honeyville Vapor. I hear great things about Backwoods Brew, Halo and Kick Bass Vapor as well but I haven't tried them yet myself.

KR808d-1 kit

The d-1 has about a 3-4 hour battery life if you're dragging on it constantly (common if you're in a party setting!). The kit costs $38 from AZsmokefree.com, plus $5.00 flat rate shipping. It comes with 5 cartomizers to try (default is tobacco flavor, but if you prefer menthol, email him first - he will usually swap it out for you). He also sells a few different flavors in the pre-filled cartomizers. (the kit comes with 2 batteries, wall charger, usb charger, 5 pre-filled cartomizers).

That's the easiest way to start. The size is similar to a 100 length cig. It's a 2-piece system, which means you get the battery and the cartomizer, screw them together and you are all set. From what I understand, the 510 has a much shorter battery life (about 2 hours).

If you're only going to be using it during social events, don't bother with buying juices and blank cartomizers and all that. Stick with a pre-filled one you like. If you were using it daily, I'd say to try the liquids. Vapor4life.com and myvaporstore.com and a few others sell pre-filled cartomizers in a bunch of flavors, too. :)

I agree with ditch.the.pack, go with a kr808d kit. It is about the same size a an analog and will last about 3-4 hours and they are reasonably priced. There are literally thousands of flavors out there for them if you refiill your own carts. You can also get zero nicotine in the juices and just go with the flavor during your social events.

First congratulations on your decision to move away from the cigarettes.
After 40 years of smoking a pack and a half to 2 packs a day I made the same decision.
I wasted almost $300 on store bought e-cigs and they all went into the trash for one reason or another.

Then I found the Bloog. Simple 2 part device (battery and cartomizer(filter). Simply screw the cartomizer onto the battery and you will be set for 4 - 6 hours. Enough for most party situations.

I would suggest the Deluxe Starter kit (approx $66 to your door) This would include 2 batteries, A/C and USB chargers, 2 velvet bags and a pack of 5 cartomizers of your choice. You would probably want either the Red, Kamel, 555 or RY4 to start. You could each get a different flavor and share them. We offer a white battery with a red LED to mimic the look of a real cig. It is about the same length as a standard 100 cigarette

Plus being a college student, you could probably use some extra cash, so we offer an affiliate program that allows you to suggest the Bloog to your friends and give them a discount plus get you some money back in your own pocket.

You can visit us at bloog.com or you can do a search here on the forum and come to see us at the Bloog sub forum where there are plenty of great people to answer your questions.

If you are interested, send me a PM and I can give you a discount code to get you started. Either way you go, good luck with the your vaping and your studies.

You guys just need a basic kit. Don't get ripped off by some crap kiosk at the mall. Here is something that would be perfect for you guys:

510 Manual Battery Kit (Black), no Box

This kit comes with 2 batteries so that you can always have 1 on the charger. Since you guys don't really crave cigarettes the way us addicted folks do, you can easily wait to charge the thing up without flipping out with desire for a smoke. You guys can just split the cost of this kit and keep one battery each. Here is why I believe this kit is perfect for you:

Manual Batteries: The automatic batteries are great at first, but they get gunked up and hard to draw on after a while. Manual batteries also allow you to warm up the cartomizer for a second or two before drawing, thus producing better vapor.

Price: For about 16 bucks each, you guys will have everything you need. Well within your $100-per-person budget :)

510 Thread: You probably don't know much about these things yet, but 510 is generally accepted as the most popular design out there, and many products are designed to work with it should you choose to expand later.

Comes with juice, a charger you two can share. I'd recommend you buy a pack of cartomizers,
Smok Tech 2.0 ohm 510 Cartomizers

If you feel the need to go with a no-nicotine juice (since you now have the option which you wouldn't have with "analogs") Check out TastyVapor.us. They have the best deal on high quality zero-nic juice that I've seen. 120ML bottle for 15 bucks, with 5 dollars shipping. I'm guessing one bottle shared between the two of you would last many, many months. Maybe even a whole year.

How much does it need to look like a cig? The ones that are the same diameter as cigs are very annoying to use with a teensy juice cup you have to push up with a paperclip to add a tiny bit of juice to. And I also do not recommend auto batteries. Can you have press a button? Auto batteries are much easier to damage or kill with a juice leak and they can turn on accidentally from wind or vibration (like being near a loud music speaker).

If you want the most look-alike with the annoying carts, see M402 and M401 at MyPVShop.com. The M401 is more likely to last a couple of hours but is the size of a 110 cig.

If you want something much better, a 510 with cartomizers will look like a cig. Cartomizers are an extra expense. Try a manual 510 (Cignot.com and get white manual) then go to NightLiteVapor and get tan Boge cartomizers (standard resistance, not LR!, and figure each will give you a week of good use once you learn to not singe them). And buy eliquid.

I don't understand the need people think they have for something that looks like a cigarette? What's so wonderful about the way a cigarette looks? Do you really want people to think your smoking a cigarette? That's the last thing I want.

I wanted something inexpensive, reliable, good warranty with a good battery life and enough power and TH to get me off cigarettes. Got that and I'm still using a $35 Joye ego. Save your money for juice.

For some people, they need it to replace the cigarette, looks and feels. Ego is great, but it's bulky for someone who never use a pv, and have friends who smokes and no one in their neighbourhood using a pv. With time, some will move to larger capacity batts such as eGo and the clones, but there are still some who loves supermini & mini size pv.

Most people (as you see from the poll results) think they want something to replace the cig look and feel until they actually start vaping. Yea, there are people that stick with that, but many quickly move on. If that's what you're going to do, don't spend a lot of money on a brand name pv because you may be buying one a few weeks later. I'm just saying this from experience of getting someone a mini and two weeks later getting them an ego style. I don't consider the ego bulky at all.

I have dealt with a bunch of different companies. If you aren't addicted to nicotine, it might make more sense to get refillable cartridges and 0 nicotine, or low nicotine juice. Don't get pre-filled cartridges. I bounced around initially between smoking anywhere, Njoy, some junky 711 brand, and Totally Wicked . Of these, I think Totally Wicked takes the cake- but I am using their SD model which looks like a screwdriver, not a cigarette. From what people have said here, I would look into a 510, maybe even generic. Be wary though, parts on traditional looking e-cigs are transient at best. I would get maybe 2-3 months out of a kit if I was lucky, and battery life may quickly fade. This is probably why so many e-smokers here do mods, or by non-traditional vaporizers, they just work better.

I started with the Riva, and I'm so happy I did.. I'm now using the Riva 1100, and I doubt if I ever leave it again. By again, I mean I thought I wanted something bigger and better, so I heard so much about the ProVape1 mod, I spent that $100.00 bill for one, and it's a hunk of junk. It is in the bottom of a drawer and I'm back to my Riva 1100. Everyone is going to have something they really like, and it's perfect for them, but might not be for you. I recomend you get the riva kit for about $ 50.00, more or less depending on were you get it, and go from there. I don't think you will regret going with the Riva.

As for the requirement that it be close to physical form as an analog, it's not for the fact that we want people to think we're smoking real cigs - we frankly don't care what others think. I'm just thinking more in terms of pocket space; between keys, wallet, phone, ipod, sunglasses, etc. I can't really fit much more than a regular sized cig in my pocket. I don't really care if it's white with a tan "filter" either - I actually kind of prefer the look of the black e-cigs with a blue led...

The ego is about the size and width of a sharpie. I'm not knocking other brands. I have and like my joye 510. It's a little black mini and I use it if I go to the gym or short trips. But all day every day I use my joye or riva ego. Can't beat it for versatility (can drip, use cartos or carts/atty, tanks), vape, battery life and price, $30. It has a 6 month warranty on batteries. I think the Riva has 3 month warranty.

As long as you use one of the vendors here you really can't go wrong regardless of what you pick.

From what I've read through reviews and other threads on this site, it sounds like it would be better if we get a model with a manual battery, as we will be taking these to concerts and parties with loud music and don't want them to go off accidently in our pockets. Additionally, we'd prefer pre-filled cartomizers, rather than having to fill our own or have seperate cartridges and atomizers.
