Is there a trick to recharging the Triton batteries? Should they be switched off or on for charging? I'm using the G6 charger. Is it materially different than the Triton one?

On the Halo website it warns not to use the G6 USB adapter to charge the Triton batteries, doing so can cause damage to the battery.

I ordered the Triton-specific USB charger. It was not clear to me that the G6 charger would not be compatible with the Triton. They "look" the same, and I still cannot find the warning that you mention.

None the less, thanks for the info.

EDIT: I found the warning in the FAQ... that pesky FAQ. I'd recommend putting a link to the Triton FAQ page somewhere on the Triton product pages if using the G6 charger will, in fact, damage the battery. I imagine a lot of people are upgrading from G6 to Triton and assume, like I did, that their charging hardware will work.

Without this thread I would have never known.... I ordered a Triton battery and tank to see how well it worked and since the threads fit I was going to use my G6 charger. Why can't the G6 charger be used? What is the difference in amperage or voltage between the two chargers? I like Halo's products but I'm not keen on spending extra money for hardware that is the same except for a screen printed label. Something like that would be a sure way to turn me off from the brand.

The G6 and Triton batteries require different voltages for charging. The wall and car chargers are interchangeable, only the usb connectors are different. We do now offer two styles of both the car charger and wall charger but they ARE interchangeable.

The part you don't want to use with the Triton is the G6 USB Adapter because it's Output Current is only 150mA, the Triton USB Adaper has an Output Current of 420mA. So all you need to purchase along with the Triton battery is the Triton USB Adapter, if you already have a G6 Wall Charger it will work with either the G6, or the Triton USB Adapters. It's the USB Adapter that controls how much Output Current is sent through to the battery being charged.

We wouldn't recommend charging the G6 with the Triton charger either as we have not done enough testing on this to confirm that will not damage either piece.

G6 charger outputs 5v. Triton charger outputs 4.2v. Obviously, you wouldn't want to charge a Triton battery with the G6 charger, but can you charge a G6 battery with a Triton charger? Is 420 mah charging rate too much for a little G6, or will it charge fine in 30 mins or so?

I'm about to order a triton battery and USB since the order i just received with my G6 kit had a triton tank and not the mini?
Is there an easy way to tell the two usb's apart so I'm not putting the wrong battery on the wrong charger?

My USB for the G6 says "G6" on it, the Triton doesn't.

My G6 USB has a large "G6" logo printed on it. My Triton USB has "HALO" as a logo. I appreciate how large the logo print is, makes it easy to tell them apart at a glance. :)

Stupid question...

Is it better to let the batteries completely drain before recharging?
Not really...if they are lithium-ions. They have little to no memory effect to my knowledge. Maybe discharge completely them once in a while so the chip in charge of knowing where 'empty and full' are gets recalibrated.

I figured it was better to let them run all the way down. I've heard most rechargeable batteries should be run completely empty then completely charged up whenever possible to maximize their lifespan. Not sure which types this benefits or what type Triton batteries are.

Maybe a statement from Halo would be appropriate?

These are lithium-ion batteries. With Lithium based batteries there is no 'memory' and battery life is actually prolonged- to a very small degree, by not letting them run down completely. The lifespan of Triton batteries is 300, or so cycles. A cycle equals a full drain to recharge. Charging it from half capacity to full twice counts as 1 full cycle. Same as with an iPhone. Use them all day, charge them overnight, and you won't have any problems. Keep one on the charger when not in use, and it won't hurt it. Nickel cadmium batteries are the ones which can suffer from 'memory' loss.

So it looks like it is too late for me. I let my Triton tank which I have had for about 1 week so far charge in my g6 charger overnight not knowing it can cause damage. And I notice it is just not pulling right, it feels so much weaker now then it did before and I even tried a fresh tank I have not used before to make sure it is not my tank. Does doing this once really break this? Is their nothing I can do to fix this? I put it back on the normal charger which is a static green color i believe meaning it is fully charged.

Do I just throw this out now and order a new one? Maybe they have a warranty policy? (Doubt it). It is the 1300 ohm charger.
