Recipe suggestions please, using this batch of TFA/LA flavors...

Two months and counting since I started vaping after over 50years analog. Have been using 6 of the larger Halo G6 manual batts with their mini tanks and juice (Tribeca, Cafe Mocha, Kringles Curse, Malibo and Belgian Cocoa were OK, Twisted Java a maybe, Shamrock a no). The Halo gear has worked just fine to get started... with the mini tanks, I don't care for the cartomizers I bought. But I already want more than the G6. Have been waiting for the Halo Triton Twist to come out before adding the eGo Twist's or something similar... will pick and order soon.

Anyway, it's time to start the DIY thing. So I placed an order with Wizard Labs for lots of everything, including 15 TFA and 3 LA flavors that had interest just to get started.

Would like to start by trying a spearmint/chocolate something; something cherry; something coffee. But I am open to trying whatever the below 18 flavors coming from WL may make. If I need more flavors I'll get more. Any suggested recipes would be appreciated.

I read somewhere that Halo juice is 60/40??? Was going to make mine 70/30 or 75/25 as has been suggested here for the Halo G6, but am open to whatever will work in this gear and when I get a Twist or whatever.

I would suggest you download the "JuiceMeUp" calculator. Open the file and it will contain a few dozen recipes. Also, at the top of this sub forum is the DIY recipe forum. Unfortunately, you are doing what a lot of people do including me - order a bunch of flavors then look for recipes when we should look for recipes then order flavors. Good luck

Chocolate - well, there's a few threads about this right now, more of the same.

Check out the many many diy recipes in the above forum, I've mixed up a couple. What makes me the most angry? I have everything I need to make this or that except for one or two flavors. I agree with John333, pick a recipe, then buy the flavors to make that recipe.

I started to reply yesterday stating the same thing as above, except I was going to add a few more of the flavors you chose to the "difficult" category, but I decided it might have sounded like I was being too arrogant. I'm glad that someone else agrees with my ideas on your choices.

Juices are very personal in nature. Perhaps you could help us answer your questions by giving us an idea of what you hoped to make with the flavors you chose. You were the one, after all, that chose those for some reason. I feel that most of what you selected are additions or enhancers to a base flavor. Tobacco, for instance, or Double RY4. I've tried the Kaulua, and some of the others you listed, as a single flavor juice to see what they offered, and for the most part, decided they might not add anything to a mix. The Coconut is very potent. I'm going to try adding it to one of my favorite mixes, but only a drop/10 ml at a time. It's nearly impossible to burn out of your wick once it's in there.

Try giving us a hint at what you like (fruity, tobacco, etc, or sweetness) and see what happens. I notice you didn't get any tobaccos, so I'm guessing you're not going in that direction, but sometimes a little tobacco can enhance a fruit juice.

I guess mostly the drink and food flavors I like was the guide used when I picked what I ordered, whether that was the right or wrong way to go about it. Also some of them because they seemed to get used in a few of the recipes I have found on ECF and elsewhere (but with other flavors I probably wouldn’t use). I don’t see me doing a lot of fruit flavors, but then I haven’t tried any yet either. I meant to order some RY4 flavor, didn’t know which one to get and in the end forgot and ordered the flavors without it. Part of my problem putting this first DIY “flavor” order together was that I found both good and bad comments on just about every flavor I “thought” I might be interested in to confuse which to buy. Makes sense, what works for you may not work for me. But I had to start someplace, it’s not a lot of money out of pocket for the 18 I ordered. Wizard was out of some of some sizes of bottles, etc I wanted so I will have to order them elsewhere (and can probably add more flavors to that order if I need to).

Maybe where I have been with Halo juice ONLY so far will add a clue. When I bought a starter kit and other extra G6 gear… for tobacco I chose Tribeca, and I ordered their gourmet sample pack that included Belgian Cocoa, Café Mocha, Twisted Java, Shamrock, Malibu and Kringles Curse. The Tribeca is fine although a little sweet maybe. I will probably try some Prime 15 when I ordered again. From the others the only one that had no appeal at all to me was the Shamrock, but the Twisted Java also didn’t do much for me either (I am a black coffee drinker but don’t drink it strong). As one who didn’t do menthol analogs the Kringles Curse was a surprise favorite, Malibu is OK too although very mild. I like Belgian Cocoa, but liked Café Mocha better once I tried it. On my second order for more batteries/tanks I also bought 30ml bottles of Tribeca, Café Mocha and Kringles Curse… and they have been my daily vapes. Of them I like Kringles best, Café Mocha is a close second, then Tribeca. Have another order in with Halo that includes 30ml’s of Kringles, Café Mocha and Malibu to keep vaping when the DIY stuff gets here and I am doing the trail and error thing to find what works for me. The G6 has been OK, but I am looking forward to an eGo Twist or maybe Triton Twist system being added soon as well.

The main problem I found with mixing my own in the beginning was that I had visions of these great tasting juices from flavors that just sounded fantastic. Turns out it's difficult, at least for me, to make those flavors "pop". I've probably got 50-70 flavors, and I only use about 5 of them now. I ended up using a single flavor juice, using only TFA Double RY4, for myself. My wife likes me to add a little TFA Caramel Original to hers. We both liked store-bought tobacco flavored juices in the beginning, but found that there was more out there than tobacco juices that were at best, moderately OK. I tried making some tobacco juices, but always felt they needed more. The DRY4 has a very subtle tobacco with a nice subtle "something else". That something else changes quite frequently, but sometimes it's caramel, sometimes it's something else, but it's always nice.

The point of all this is that I definitely didn't end up at the point I thought I'd end up when I started. As so many have suggested, finding a nice simple one or two flavor juice gives great satisfaction. You firstly like to vape it, and secondly, you made it yourself. I'm now searching for something similar in simplicity to make so that I can rotate with my DRY4. Only you can decide what you really like, so I'd suggest you find a flavoring that you find close to what you imagined it'd taste like, and develop that juice with respect to strengths, ratios, etc. Smoke that for a while, and one day, after you've tired of that, you'll find another flavoring or mixture you like. But until then, you'll always have your go-to juice to fall back on. I've got a drawer full of flavorings I wish I'd never ordered after tasting them. But they sure sounded great before I tasted them.

Coffee is one of the flavors I used to break my cigarette habit, and I still keep it in my daily rotation. One of the first DIY projects was a coffee extraction, using a fine grind of decent coffee, some PG, and a few coffee filters. I've got a long way to go, but the extract has a pretty good flavor and it shows a lot of promise. If you've got enough PG to spare, and a little time to research and experiment, you should give it a try.

ETA: I know you're looking for a recipe suggestion. I'm in the same boat, a new-to-diy vaper looking for a great recipe. I've looked in a lot of places, and the extract idea seems to be the most promising for me. Another post in the Recipe section, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/e-liquid-recipes/436782-roberts-baisha-blend-4-a.html, contains a cream mixture that may help me get where I want to go.

About a month into DIY juice, I'm still trying to find that elusive coffee flavor I crave....It started with MVS coffee e-liquid..Not really a "black coffee" flavor I was looking for, but more a coffee with cream, a hint of mocha or chocolate and a tint of sweetness...(OMG did I just write that lol)But it was GOOD!!! Anyway.. I started with TFA/TPA Coffee(Clear), purchased a variety of other "coffee" flavors and followed a veritable b-ttload of coffee recipes...This morning I had a revelation...well not really...The KISS method...(we all know it...keep it simple stupid...) anyway..the latest batch steeping as I write, is a 10ml test..simply of TFA/TPA coffee and TFA/TPA Sweet Cream..We'll see how this turns out..if the measurements are any good I'll pass them along..then add the other "hints" of flavors and see how it goes....But as you'll find everywhere and find personally, everybody's taste differs...Experiment....Welcome to the lab!!!

Sidenote- You could try the Pineapple you have with Bavarian Creme..good flavor in my opinion....

HARDWARE: Some suggestions for the Hal: If you are planning to upgrade your G6 Kit into Triton, this is a good move to start enjoying Vaping on a higher level. I did the same, and the Triton kit is a good kit. But the problem is that when you buy the Triton, you will be stuck forever with having to buy hardware from Halo, which costs a lot more than the alternatives, plus a few other inconveniences. The Triton tanks are simply Kanger T2's that are slightly modified for Halo. You can buy Kanger type tanks at half the price from countless other places on the net. You will not be able to fit most Kanger-type Tanks into the Trion due Halo's slightly altered modification. I say "most" because some Kanger T2 tanks actually fit on to the Triton Battery, while most won't. The same goes for vice versa, "some" Triton tanks can fit on to the eGo style batteries. I know this for certain because I have several Kanger Tanks. Some fit on to the Triton only, others to the eGo only, and yet others will fit both. Due to that hassle, I gave up on Halo Tritons in favor of buying eGo style batteries and Tanks, which give me a multitude of vendor and price level choices and plenty more flexibility. I highly suggest going eGo over Triton for your upgrade from your G6.

DIY LIQUIDS. The key is to start in the most simple ways. I suggest making an order from Wizard Labs, since you were cool with Tribeca (an RY4 variant), include a couple of 8ml bottles of TFA DOUBLE RY4, which is a very flexible and, and in the opinion of many, a very delicious liquid. What's great about it for DIY is that it's easy to mix and experiment things with it.

The best start to DIY (for vapers who are ok with Tobacco) is to create a simple Double RY4 Liquid in the Nicotine level and PG/VG ratio that you like. Use about 7-10% (I use 10%) Double RY4 flavor and mix that into your PG/VG/Nic. Do a quick steep/blending process by:

1) Vigorous shake for several seconds
2) Immersing the bottle in a covered thermos of Hot Tap water overnight
3) Next morning, remove the bottle cover to air out a bit, replace cover, vigorous shake and then immerse in Hot water again for the day
4) Repeat the process for another night
5) One the third Day, give it one last shake and it's ready to Vape

Using that process, I was able to make an RY4 that is supremely better, IMO, than the 7 or 8 other regular and premium RY4's I've tried and paid double, triple and quadruple for.

While you're at making that first DIY bottle, make a second bottle of the very same Double RY4, but this time, drop about 5% Dulce de Leche in it. So you'll be steeping 2 different mixes you made. On the third day, you can try both, I have little doubt you'll be enjoying the whole thing and well on your way to making all different kinds of stuff. In the beginning, avoid the Chocolate and Coffee flavors (as previously discussed until you have a bit more experience, stick with the DRY4 variants and Fruity or Desert flavors you have.

Thank you. A lot of what you said was already in my radar… I knew a lot of the flavors I bought were a trail/error thing. And I knew I will make up some batches that are terrible. Like with everything else with vaping I can see there is a big learning curve. So many of the recipes I see folks rave about scream no thanks to me because of the key flavors used. IE, I don’t see ever being heavy into fruit or menthol. But I wanted to learn by doing, so figured this bunch would give me start doing just that. I spent quite a bit of time today/tonight (another all nighter) figuring out some to try sample batches of using what I have. Found descriptions of the flavors themselves outside of the vape community, put two and two together paying close attention to how strong they would be and think I have a few I’ll try that includes those I asked in particular about. I’ll do 3ml test batches max – and if I guessed wrong can add to dilute or strengthen as needed (unless they are horrible). I am leaning to the mild side on flavors to start – easier to add than dilute. So far I have tended to vape just one juice all day, maybe another all night and the others for specific times while trying them out. So I am not looking to have dozens of recipes to use all the time. I have enough Tribeca on hand to keep me going for awhile with a tobacco juice… good thing because they were out of ALL the RY4 flavors when I placed the order… I wanted at least one (I have a recipe said to be close to Tribeca) . They were also out of the Carmel Original I wanted, so I bought English Toffee and Butterscotch as possible subs. Forgot to buy any Vanilla too, but I should be able to find that locally. And so it goes.

I didn’t have to break a habit… I live alone, I like to smoke - this is just a better alternative. I’ve always said that if my doc told me to quit drinking coffee or I’d die tomorrow… I’d die tomorrow. I can give up smoking, I refuse to give up black coffee. Mine comes from friends that have a plantation on Maui and from the Kona Coast, and a neighbor that owns a plantation in Costa Rica. They get the roast I like, I control the grind. Being able to get them into a juice, what an idea. Thank you for it. I have 50 LDPE/PET 5ml/10ml dropper bottles coming Saturday to try batches in.

I have TPA Coffee Clear, but no Sweet Cream. Bavarian and Irish Cream though, and could add a little sweetener or Dulce de Leche. I’m not really into sweet coffee though, nor those with heavy added flavors. Could also try the Pineapple/Bavarian Cream you mentioned. Thanks.

I have already decided against the Triton Twist, for other reasons but also including what you said about incompatibility with other products. Pretty sure I will be placing an order for eGo Twist gear and accessories by Monday. Waiting to hear back from a supplier I contacted today. Will probably start with two 1000 and one 650 mAh Twist batteries and various top gear to try out, see what I like best before ordering more. Thank you for confirming that I made a better choice.
On the DIY thing, my order is coming from Wizard Labs, about $100 worth that is supposed to be here Friday. Add another $40 in bottles Friday from Vapor Alley (WL was out of stock); another $90 from Halo Saturday. I wanted some of the RY4 flavors, WL was out of all of them when I ordered. Haven’t got around to looking for it elsewhere, but will someplace where I can get other things as well. Appreciate the steeping method to go along with others I have found. I have more than enough bottles coming to make batches and let them steep for as long as anyone suggests. With six 30ml bottles of Halo juice to fall back on I won’t run out while experimenting with recipes any time soon (at least not with just the Halo G6 gear).

I’ve been retired for a long time. So I haven’t worked as hard for a long time as I have the last two months trying to learn to be an informed buyer/user. Even with all the long hours doing so all day and/or all night often I know I haven’t even scratched the surface yet. First it was gear, then juice, then DIY and now back to gear before a long stint with DIY, etc, etc, etc. So thank you all for your continued kind help and sharing your experiences.

Well, been playing the mad chemist, made up 5 different 5ml test batches, now have them steeped sp gave them a run. Call it beginers luck but 4 of them are AOK and the cherry something just needs a little tweeking.
