Hello EC gurus,
Long time vaper here. I put this in the beginners forum because of no posts.

I am looking for a short length 18650 variable voltage (or wattage). Everything I can find is very long. Ideally it would be an inch longer than an 18650 battery or so.
The closest I can find is iTaste MVP, which is not 18650, but has similar capacity. I would get it in a heartbeat if it wasn't for the non-replaceable battery. I am kind of a battery geek and also know that those things die with the battery at some point and there is nothing you can do.

  • Must be variable
  • Should have button on the side (not the bottom)
  • Does not need sub ohm or unregulated
  • Can live with 14500 is that's all I can get

I don't mind a DIY kit since I built a bunch of mods before, though all were mechanical.

Any hope or just go with MVP?

Why the jump in consideration from 18650 to 14500? That would be a huge drop in battery capacity/run time.

The best I can tell you is if you want the 18650 battery capacity you have to accept the added length as any of them with a VV/VW option are going to have buttons and a display - and that is going to make them typically a lot more than an inch longer than the battery. So do you want the 18650 battery or do you want the smaller size? You have options in VV/VW here from 18350, 18500 to 18650 - but you have to decide what is most important first - battery capacity or APV length.

PIPELINE UK | PIPELINE PRO mod Made In Germany about an inch smaller than an 18650 Provari (which is another option). It's expensive and restrictive because the only tube it comes with is the one you buy - but it's probably the smallest regulated 18650 device out there.

If you are considering the MVP, then you might also consider the iStick. It's around the same price, but has more power, smaller form and comes in different colors. Some have reported weak 510 threading though and it does use a different way of regulating power that means it might be over-powered at lower settings than you are used to.

There are just so many devices out there now. Have you considered a mech with a kick for example? Similar experience to a regulated APV but you can pretty much choose the tube, battery and form you buy and put a kick in the device for control of wattage / voltage.

You didn't mention budget, so I covered everything from $25 for an iStick to $200+ for the pipeline pro. Consider the Vapor Shark® | Premium E-Liquids & Personal Vaporizers too if you are not 100% sold on the 18650 form.

Well technically it's not an iStick, but you can get a clone called a smart-20 for $26 from Found 7 smart-20 at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping Some say it's the exact same as an iStick (even so far as made in the same factory as the genuine - but I don't know if that is true or not)

As for an ego adapter, yes, the iStick comes with one, I am not sure about the smart-20 though EDIT - just checked, the pictures show what looks to be a 510 to ego connector.

Finally, the kick - yes, 18490/ 18500 and use a kick. Some mods come with an 18650 tube and an extension ring for the kick (or kick ring!) but this is seen less and less these days. Some mechs are also telescopic and will allow you to use any size battery with a kick - you will have to check though as some don't extend to an 18650 and a kick.

Of course, the IPV mini mentioned above is another option. If you are open to box mods there are hundreds out there now - some with 18650 (dual and triple configurations too) and some proprietary li-po batteries. Vaping seems to be in an innovation maelstrom right now, products coming to market are being surpassed almost immediately by something with higher voltage / wattage capabilities.

It's a buyers market for sure.
